Remember this story (http://www.zdnet.nl/News.cfm?id=29569&mxp=32) about competing companies trying to establish a secure, but incompatible, ZIP format?
There's news: PKware announced (http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/10-06-2003/0002030183&EDATE=) that their standaard is free now. If it is secure enough, the zip-standard might be saved :)
