Backup Options

If I create, on an external USB drive, an image backup of my C partition, what are my options for succeding incremental and differential backups of C? If I create an incremental backup of C, can it be either an image or a files and folders? If I create an differential backup, can it be either an image or a files and folders?

They have to match.
If the FULL was a Disk/Partition image, the DIFF/INC must be a Disk/Partition image also.
Likewise, if the FULL was a Files/Folder backup, so must be the DIFF/INC.

Your first sentence said "image."
If you want to continue with images, you can create either incrementals or differentials after that.
As far as files/folders, they would be totally separate from the images.
