I 'd like to virtualize an older Windows 2000 Server for revision purposes, to get the hardware free.

1) I made an image of the dynamic volumes of my server
2) I created a virtual pc (MS Virtual PC) with windows 2000 Server
3) I did a restore using the boot recovery cd with "use universal restore"
4) I tried to boot the virtual pc

But this did'nt work, the step with universal restore tasks was missing.

I tested this first with a windows 2003 server with static volumes and it worked fine.

What did I wrong?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanx.

Hello madelbre,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/).

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please note that this is one of the limitations of Acronis Universal Restore. Namely, the Acronis Universal Restore option does not work if the image contains dynamic disks and volumes. You can find more information in the Chapter "Limitations in using Acronis Universal Restore" in the User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/download/docs/) for the respective version of Acronis True Image.

Thank you.

I'm also trying the same thing. However, I'm trying to restore an XP computer that has only basic volumes. The universal restore option is missing. I'm booting up the virtual PC with Acronis True Image Server with the Universal restore option (Safe Version). It has something to do with the original image, but I'm not sure what. The original image is not corrupt.

Siva
