I would like to know which e-mail client u are using.
Do you choose your's because of security issues or more becuase of features and GUI?
P.S
As you see in my signature i am personal interestet what members of Wilders are using, as they look at the security of aplications, etc.

I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird
- it's faster than MS Outlook
- it's safer than MS Outlook, because I can read emails in text-mode, instead of the 'dangerous' HTML-mode.
- it has an anti-spam function.
- it allows me to store my emails and address-books on another harddisk or partition.
I configured Thunderbird in such way, that opening and closing Thunderbird is enough to get rid of all my spam-emails, which makes me happy as a spam-hater.
Thunderbird was for me the 99%-solution for scams & infections via email without doing anything than installing and configuring it, a one time job.

Outlook 2003
It's what I use at work, it does what I need, and I have no problems keeping things secure. I just operate it with the same precautions and measures as my employer does.

I'd probably do the same if I used Office programs, but I don't. I mainly use Microsoft Works for all my word processing, database and spreadsheet needs.

Thunderbird, all messages forwarded to a gmail account.
Also a yahoo account and a hotmail account (don't use them often)
Finally a webmail account for my admin messages.

Eudora (sponsored mode). While I first got into it years ago for GUI and ease of use, it does have a number of good security features like warning if there's any attempt to auto-send multiple copies. For several versions back, it's included the ability to "hide" its address book(s) from viruses (encryption?).
And some features are just to help reinforce good habits, like warning if you're about to open a possibly dangerous attachment (most commonly exe's and doc's, although there's quite a few others covered). It even has a "hook" so that if you try to open these via Explorer, with Eudora closed, it'll still warn provided they're in your normal (not necessarily default) attachment folder.

I've Tried: Pine, Eudora, Mulberry, Sylpheed, i.scribe, Pegasus, Courier, OE, and others I've forgotten about.
Keep coming back to Thunderbird.
There was always something lacking in the other programs. IMAP handling, identity management, lack of spellcheck, etc.

I use Pop Peeper (http://www.poppeeper.com/). I have numerous email accounts (~15 at the moment) related to my 12 websites. Also, because of the nature of my websites, I get quite a lot of malware in email. Further, because of the purpose of my websites, I solicit email and cannot tolerate false positives.
In the past 10 years I have used Outlook Exp, Calypso, Courier, Popcorn, JBMail, Pegasus, Eureka, Thunderbird, Scribe, Phoenix, Sylpheed, Foxmail, Poco, Bat, PMMail, Vivian, Marlin, MailWarrior, Mulberry, MailCopa, and several others. None of them did the job for me as well as Pop Peeper.
Pop Peeper handles the huge traffic slick & fast. VERY secure. Easy to spot & kill spam.
As to recommendations --
*If you have several email accounts & get lots of mail, I recommend Pop Peeper
**If you have just one or a very few accounts with low mail volume, I recommend Pegasus. However, if you find Pegasus a bit too complex (it is VERY powerful) then I suggest Sylpheed (http://www.nonags.com/nonags/emc.html).
NOTE: All my recommendations here are Freeware, but that is NOT why I recommend them. I recommend them because they are superb programs.

I find that it (Pegasus) really works in a pretty simple fashion - if you don't mess with the extras. Mine's run "out of the box" with just a few settings such as making read mail transfer to an "old mail" folder. I have 2 email accounts going through it and it came with helpful little notes all over when you first install. I actually read them all :P

Seams that i am only one in Wilders World who is using TheBat!.
It's so far the only MUI that can handle my e-mail database of 350 MB - arround 120.000 e-mails - without problems, and manage well arround 200 (lots of mailing list ) emails arriving each day. Sorting, spam check. etc. The features are endless, but i think TB! is only for power emailer as there are very good freeware MUI out there like Thunderbird.
Don't talk to me about OE and OE Express :)

I agree with dog [away in some far fetched land probably having fun].
However, I would like to hear people's opinion on my method. Since USB flash drives are increasing in size and declining in price at such a rapid rate, I've given the U3 software platform a try. I actually like it. I use a version of Thunderbird specifically designed for U3 and so far it seems to work very well. The advantages are that I can take it with me virtually everywhere I go. I've found that it even works at school where users are not allowed to install software on client PCs because everything runs off of the USB flash drive.
The only potential downside that I've seen is the size limitation. However, I current own a 1 gig drive and I see that it's possible to get a 4 gig drive for a reasonable amount of money. Not many people are likely to have more than 4 gig worth of email, although just as I say that I'm sure someone will chime in that has more.
Even for those people, I saw that TigerDirect has a 64 gig USB drive, but I'm not sure if it is U3 compatible. Oh, it does cost over $7,000 US.

You can view HTML Mail with TheBat!, but not the embedded files like images etc. Matter of security. Ritlabs will implement a feature to switch this on and off.
AntiSpamServant is a good Shareware plugin which works basicly on the Bayesian method. There are better plugins (freeware) plugins out there.

Export _all_ your messages from POCO into one standard 'unix mail format' file (mbox). Those you can import with TheBat!

-{ Quote: "Is there any way of migrating easily from PocoMail to The Bat!?

PocoMail stores its messages in an MBX-file, so unless The Bat offers importing that format, there's no other way I know of. :-\
Mailbag Assistant or Aid4Mail (http://www.fookes.com/) can assist you better with it, although it's not free. It converts your messages to EML.
Maybe Ritlabs forum (http://www.ritlabs.com/en/forum/) can assist you better with that migration, so good luck with it. :)

@ Eldar: how do you compare PocoMail and The Bat! and why do you work with both?" }-The Bat does offer a trial period, so it should give you an insight how it works.
I love Poco/Barca, but bought The Bat some time ago during my search for an email client and upgraded afterwards. I only use it for my work, because I need intact HTML when replying, which Poco can't at present and perhaps it never will. :P
The Bat does offer lots of features, some I'll never use, and isn't so easy to start with. It's a powerful email client, but I'm hooked to Barca.

I have been using PocoMail since 2003 and I like it a lot. Even if I am sticking with version 3.4, because of the problem version 4 has concerning the sorting of the address book (not showing in the first place all VIPs). It is a pity this question was not solved, at least to the best of my knowledge.

Let's say it this way. If you don't have to manage at least 5 diferent e-mail accounts, are not a power e-mailer with a lots of e-mails a day, don't need for each adress a different sheat, your database has only about some hunderd emails, etc. you won't have to switch to TheBat! I'm still considering keeping Becky for reading mailing lists, because it supports threading.
