Hi Friends,
I have downloaded the evalution copy of acronis true image and took a backup image of a server consisting of 3 drives (C:,D: and E:).Now I am trying to restore this image on a different server with just one drive(C:) and I do not see the restore option...can somebody please explain me why???
Does this image needs to be restored on a system exactly like the same before??Does this software backups at the file system and not at the O.S level like VmWARE???
Please help guys...I am confused.
Thanks
Mick

Hello Mick,

I believe you talking about partitions not the drives. In this case you can restore either only the system partition (with or without MBR) to another HDD or you can restore the entire HDD (with all 3 partitions) so the second drive will be exactly the same. Also since you would like to restore to a different server (which means different hardware I believe) you will need Acronis Universal Restore (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATISWin/universal-restore.html). BTW, not about AI9.1 Server for Windows but might be useful for new users of all ATI versions http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/company/inpress/2006/06-15-1ati.html and also have a look at the User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/download/docs/)

Not sure what did you mean by that but Acronis True Image creates a sector-by-sector snapshot of the disk, which includes the operating system, programs and data files.

Hi Mick,
If you're into the technical stuff and want to know a bit more on how TI works its magic, have a read of this <Acronis Technical article> (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/resource/tech-talk/2003/disk-imaging-1-introduction.html).
