Hi Mina
Having read through the info we posted it doesn't seem like there would be a problem with you using this. Bear in mind that there is no mention of support for this, Commercial customers who purchase the product get free support as part of their package. The website I listed below for my-etrust.com at least has technical support incorporated into the cost.

So I downloaded etrust some weeks ago, but have not installed yet.
Is it well behaved an on-demand (backup) scanner? Would it conflict with McAffee on my work machine, or Nod32 on my home machine (both as on-access)?

As I experienced, Nod32 does not allow access to any file on the HD if it is running as an on-access scanner.
You have to close Amon not just disable it, as it loads amon.vxd on bootup.
I never used Mcafee as my on-access scanner..

Although i have not used Nod or mc afee with e Trust v7 promo
It worked well with my kav lite as an on demand scanner .
However some anti virus do get a little possessive once you install them , however e trust is not so . Cant speak for the others though.

Thanks Minacross & SPC! ;D
I'm more interested in putting it on my work laptop, since I don't have a lot of confidence in the old version of McAfee on that machine, nor am I confident that my company's IT dept. is distributing timely engine and definitions updates.
I use (and like) F-Prot for DOS on my home machine, where it plays well with NOD32. But the office laptop is NTFS.

OK, once again!
You can get FREE etrust antivirus at: http://etrust-heva.www.conxion.com/v7/
And you can use it for how long you want.

Is this the server version or can you use it on single PC or laptop as well? Does it require an installation number or what?

Has anyone confirmed whether or not there is support for the promo version?

Yes I asked for assisitance once and received a email response within 12 hrs or so. However there is an amazing knowledge base that one can access .
Once its up and running it seems to do its job effortlessly without the ongoing maintenance that is needed with some software .

Does anybody know about this NTFS matter?
Also, if I understood correctly, the promo version 7 is much heavier than the EZ trust version that CA sells for home users.
I have the laptop with windows 2000 pro NTFS, celeron 700 MHz, RAM 320 MB SODIMM PC100.
The PC has windows 98, AMD k6-III 400 MHz, 256 MB RAM.
Thanks

Hi Zonnet . RedhatCOC may be able to explain that.
The promo has both Vet and InoculateIT so is bound to be heavier ( I run it on a wind98se and 128 rams and its fine)
regarding the two diffirences there is a thread www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,8272825~root=security,1~mode=flat
If you are concerned about downloading it to your laptop with windows 2000 pro NTFS why dont you give RedhatCOC an email and ask his thoughts as he spent some time apparantly working through that issue , so Im sure would be able to give you some helpful advice with it . You shouldnt have any hassles with the win98 though.
good luck

Zonnet:
Thanks to meneer and this forum I've been using this AV for the last 4 months.
I have a Windows98SE, P266, 176 mb ram.
It runs smooth as silk. Updates daily. No problems.
Very pleased.

You could contact RedhatCOC via DSLreports . Underneath his name on his posting click on the blue name and that will take you to a box for instant messaging . There you can ask him about loading it up on your Win2000.
However someone from here may have a win2000 and can advise

I attempted to enroll by filling in their form with factual info. Bottom line -- they did not qualify me [the real me] for the promo.
Is there a moral to this story? :P

When I enrolled Belllgamin, they sent an email with a download link and also a confirmation of my registration . It was with my real name . Also a few links for support etc . Are you using the e Trust ?
bellgamin
October 24th, 2003, 05:41 PM
@ solarpowered candle
As to the link I clicked -- it was one of the ones I saw earlier in this thread -- forget which. It took me to a place where I had to register, identify my company, number of employees, IT job title etc.
I enrolled using my real name. I doubt that is what bothered them. My guess is that it was my lack of a company name, & the fact that I fitted none of the job titles on their drop-down list. Also, nobody works for me, & my job is "retired." :o)
Is there a link where I don't have to register in order to obtain this freebie? If I must falsify, there IS a price -- one which I won't pay.
Thanks for responding. Live long & prosper.

I would try Bellgamin and redo it . Put your name there and fill out everything as simply as possible and retry . It worked for me and im not a IT professional . (Im more of a beachcomber)

@ blackcat - The link you gave does indeed allow me to download. At the risk of looking a gift horse in his orifice, I must remark...
Wow -- it's >15Mb!!!
& then ask --- Will I be able to update it?
As to AV programs -- yes, I always try new stuff. My frontliner is F-Prot. My *second opinion* AV is AntiVir PE. EZ is installed [not running] because I got it for $20 & can renew it for $10/yr! I could go on but a Mod may get me for OT. Let me add...
1-You just GOTTA try AntiVir PE (http://www.free-av.com/)
2-Do you think BOClean will really kill The Beast, as they claim? :-\

Hi Bellgamin
I deleted my post as groundling posted just before I did.
The E-Trust v.7 promo by all accounts is a very good AV, probably the 'best' free AV at the present time if it sits well with your other software, your machine is not too old and you can manage to update it. The 2 scan engines is a big plus.
Yes, AntiVir looks very promising for the future, with the ex-Gladiator now on board.
