Can not copy partition.

I have a 40GB WD HD that is failing. So I purchased a 250GB Maxtor to replace it. I used DD 10 bootable CD to copy the 40GB partition to the 250GB. But I wouldn't do it. I highlighted the 40GB partition & selected Copy, but on the next screen it showed both drives but wouldn't let me select either drive as the destination.

I tried it with an active 250GB partition & without any partitions at all. Without a partition it listed the 250GB drive but wouldn't let me select it. I even created a partition using DD & tried to copy it.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing or NOT doing?? I have used DD before & have used TI for several of my clients & myself for backing up. I would really like to use DD whenever I can. But this time I had to use Maxtor's utility CD to copy the partition. It didn't seem to have any problems at all.

Please note that you should copy your partitions to unallocated space, but not to another partition. You can delete partitions out of your 250 Gb Maxtor and you will be allowed to select it as a destination point for copy of your partition.

I tried this. I deleted the partition so that there was no space allocated at all. When I went thru the copy partition process, it showed the empty 250GB, but would NOT let me select it with the mouse or spacebar. In fact, I don't remember it allowing me to even highlight the drive in anyway.

So it must be something else that is preventing accessing the empty drive with no allocated space.

Could you please clarify if any other functions of Disk Director work correctly? Do you copy partition using "Copy partition" wizard or using right click menu when clicked on partition you want to copy? Please provide us with step-by-step description of your actions you make with the program with screenshots if it is possible. Then you should contact Acronis Support Team (support@acronis.com). We shall do our best to find the solution for this problem.
