It seems to have been pulled for the time being - http://castlecops.com/t157300-Webroot_Spy_Sweeper_5_0_Beta_Available.html

If you go to the options page in spysweeper and then click on upgrade program it will take you to webroot and you can download Beta 5 there. Only place I know.

Beta 3 is out. I'd recommend waiting for the next rev.

According to the beta 2 release notes, Webroot has invited existing SpySweeper users and some other users to test version 5. And also according to the technical support ticket that I have received, version 5 beta will not be released for public testing for the time being.

I installed beta 3 last night and it stoped 2 of my recording software from working. I sent the bug report in and I hope it`ll get fixed soon. Meanwhile back to beta 2.

Oh really? NERO and Roxio? Or other types of recording software?

Hi Chubb. No it was Asampoo`s Burning Studio 6 and Movie Shrink and Burn. Neither would start or if it started it would shut down. Removed SpySweeper and all was well again.

Doesn't seem to get along with ZA Pro 6.5... latest version. Once installed a lot of webpages just loaded headers and that was it.

Hi lodore,

It seems to be a bug of beta 3. You can use the "Beta Feedback" form on the SpySweeper Beta 3 main screen to submit your findings, or you can submit a ticket for the beta. Response from the technical staff is quite fast.

Since 5.0 is still in beta and is not a released version, it is not surprising to have bugs like your run dll error.

I haven't read too much re: how everyone is doing with version 5 beta. I noticed longer load times and web pages taking longer to load than the current 4.5. Tried to maintain same settings as 4.5 while allowing new features.

Seemed to really bog down firefox. I could not tell if it was possibly zonealarm free I have on one machine. I removed zonealarm and still had the slow load problem. Updated zonealarm to latest version, went back to spysweeper 4.5 and my browsing is back to normal speeds.

Would be curious to know other's experiences. Thanks.

I am also using ZoneAlarm Pro 6.5.722.000 with SpySweeper 5.0 Beta 3, but I didn't notice any slowdown in loading web pages in IE, Firefox or Opera. ;)

Hm...There are some new and improved features and known problems stated in the 5.0 Beta release notes, but quoting the information here may violate the beta NDA, since it is not a public beta. And there may be changes in the feature list when the final is out. Since 5.0 will be out some time in July, it is better to wait for the final offical word from Webroot. ;)

Have you tried ewido? Much better than Webroot, IMO.

Yes, I have ewido and a-squared. Ewido is stronger in trojan detection and SpySweeper is stronger in spyware detection, at the moment.

Ewido just released v4.0. It has some very cool new tools. In fact, I used Webroot before Ewido, but dumped it because it missed some serious stuff that Ewido detected. Also, it integrates better w/ my other apps.

Personally, I avoid beta versions of security apps. Not worth the risk, IMO. I let them work out the bugs first.

Are you running both apps simultaneously?

hmmm so Ewido has a new release? Thanx for the heads up Get you geek on...

I had errors that weren't gone with system restore .. I didn't installed FD-ISR at that time yet .. (now I have lol..learned my lesson I guess)

with the current version I am very pleased, also with Ewido I am pleased but A2 at the moment is the best thing I have honestly...the possibilities are endless regards their realtime IDS.

Yes, I am running ewido 4.0, A-Squared 2.0 and SpySweeper 5.0 Beta 3 simultaneously.

IMHO, at the moment, both SpySweeper and ewido complement each other in spyware and trojan detection, although both programs will aim at to be equally strong in both trojan and spyware detection, and the method used by ewido and SpySweeper is different. So running them both simultaneously gives two layers of protection, and for the time being, there is no conflict so far.

In the future, when both ewido and SpySweeper are mature enough and equally strong in both trojan and spyware detection, I may just choose one from the two.

Whenever I try a beta software or a new software, I always use TrueImage to backup a copy of my system first. This helps to revert to the previous state when serious error occurs. ;D

seems like a mature way of analysing programs!

they do complement eachother (however I do prefer the realtime memory scanner of Boclean, the FileScanner of Ewido P!us * both for trojandetection * and Spysweeper for Spyware ;)

as my first line of malware defense I have now discovered A2 .. and simply I would give all my licences away just to have this IDS of A2 .. the best effort made so far regarding the implementation of heuristics and HIPS

And I have a dual boot system, dual booting Windows XP and Windows 2000. When unexpected error occurs in either OS, I can continue to work on the other OS. Some people used VM virtualization software to test new or beta software, which is also a good way of testing new software.
