View Full Version : The "Thankyou Jooske!" thread

Wayne - DiamondCS

Whether you're new to these forums or you've been here since the beginning, one name you almost certainly would've seen by now is Jooske - there's a good chance that she's already helped you at some stage in the past. With the amount of threads she's responded to (most of them trying to help people with various questions or problems) you'd be forgiven for thinking that this was her paid job - but it's not, and that's part of what makes her ongoing contributions to this forum (as well as the DiamondCS forum) particularly special.

Here at DiamondCS we've known Jooske for several years now, since she first became a registered TDS operator (TDS2 if memory serves). A security-conscious net-savvy woman from the Netherlands with an appetite for knowledge, I remember receiving a lot of emails from her during those early days, eagerly enquiring as to how to use various components of TDS so that she could gain better protection for her system through a better understanding of the software she uses to protect it (a wise move - an educated brain is a stronger defence than any security software). We don't get many of those emails any more, she's got security pretty much sussed out now :). But now she's passing on a lot of what she has learnt by helping people in these forums.

And by helping out, I mean a _lot_ - since Feb 12 2002 she has made 4204 posts which I believe ranks her as the #1 poster here at Wilders, and at least half of which are simply her giving up her own time to help others, most of them being people she's never seen here before! She's not a programmer or a security researcher or anything along those lines so many of the questions she's answered have posed some problems to her, but she hasn't let that stop her from trying to help people. It may seem strange, but because she's answered so many questions that we (DiamondCS) would've otherwise had to answer, she's actually saved us time (and as anyone in business knows, time = money), which in turn results in more development time, which in turn results in programs being released faster.

Personally I don't think there are enough people like Jooske on this planet, and likewise I don't think they receive the recognition they deserve, and I know a lot of people here would agree with me on that. However, as long as we've got her here I guess we can settle for just the one. :)

So folks, the next time you see Jooske in a thread, don't be afraid to say Hello and introduce yourself :)

Thanks for the flowers!

We must never forget we are team players here all together: the one asks or posts something worth mentioning to the world, others answer or react or ask questions on that, result is we all learn from it.
On line - permanent education 8)

Did i ever mention most of my education came since being connected in the DCS family?
And Wayne: i do have every support email since november 1999 when you helped me out of a real terrible hacking accident which did cost me a new CPU, HD, MB just before i knew about TDS unfortunately and i was there all shaking and not very knowledgeable about that part of internet.
One can do a few things in such cases:
get knowledge to better protect yourself and help people around, get very angry and fight back, i did not get angry or just in a constructive way and took care to stay in the driver's seat much more comfortable as time went on, got myself top notch software and hey, i learned a lot more since!
I like to recognize normal and suspicious computer behavior, learned to drop fear for any nasties and how to threat them, and since the Port Explorer socket spy enables to look at incoming packets and i learned how to send nasty samples in a safe way to the TDS lab....... hmmm imagine how proud i was the other day finding a few nasties even the most famous online virus checker did not recognize but Gavin was able to add them to the TDS primaries list! ha! 8)
We can but admire the DCS team with all that distant education and all the patience -- we exchanged (including several other TDS family members) over 4000 emails by now.
Remarkable lot of patience worth mentioning (DCS support second to none is famous for that among others), and building quite a large support database, besides two support forums and other details on the DCS sites ...
Wow!

And still learning from each question! So keep on posting guys!
And: where possible, see people's real wishes fulfilled in new builds of top notch software, of which many tools are even available for free on the DCS sites!

Thanks you Wayne old china plate, for making it all possible!

My first participation in a web forum was when I registered for TDS and signed onto their private forums. And I immediately felt welcome when I saw Jooske's approach to people there (and of course here!, once I came across Wilders :) ). Even if I felt that my "question-of-the-moment" was dumb I would feel okay in asking it as I saw that Jooske would not treat it that way at all.

And seeing how well she responds to people in the various forums, I try to use that as a model for how I approach people here as well. So I owe Jooske a wealth of thanks on both counts! :D

Thanks Jooske!! ;)

Thanks again guys; you can probably imagine who is my role model for forum and email attitude? 8)

We agreed all long ago dumb questions don't excist at all: the only which might be dumb are those burning ones not asked.
Remember we can all learn from them.

When i look back in the support emails database i could feel dumb about myself and really asking if i left the DCS team baldheaded from tearing out their hairs for my many dumb questions; i could wonder if they would mind now it seems bald is mode and those frustrations might have helped them as they don't have time for going for a haircut anyway! I've not the slightest idea about their hairs condition and as i try to stay on topic i wouldn't dare to aks! (dumb dumb dumb! BURNING question!!!)

Anyway, good to look back and agree you really did grow and understand things so much better, no more overwhelmed by a whole bunch of new things, but with the little bits of knowledge one can now place it more or less, separate problems in smaller pieces and start working on the most logical ones (we do hope! :D ) to get rid of problems.

Rocking role bomb ... hmmm that's a new one in the security world!
You see? Security is sooooo much fun with DCS tools at hand!

;D I agree. Jooske should be given kudos for helping me with the various questions that I've had here and at DiamondCS. So let me start with her kudos. Jooske, I officially Applaud ;) you. Also I'd like to thank Gavin and Wayne. All of you are always willing to help with anything that comes up. Thanks to everyone. ;D

Jooske
September 21st, 2003, 04:26 AM
Thanks Beetjejuice:
Remember we work as a team, my initial DCS products info came from Wayne, later added by Gavin and Jason, and via the forums ... you see the names of Pilli in the DCS forums and some 6380 more in the members lists whose contributions in most cases ( ;) ) are hightly appriciated and we all can learn from those.
To make all this possible and keep growing and learning and add to our education it really takes serious teamwork.
We all love our systems and are curious enough to look for it working optimal and if it can be better, more secure, hammered close tight and reading which ideas nasties had and have no chance on our well protected systems and amazed by new tools and toys to enhance our joy even more.
I've written before, TDS is central on my system with scripts running from there to do so many nice other things --yes you can have it remotely make your coffee and start the tv and call your local pizza ordering system, and so much more so why do yourself short having it closed one single moment else then for system reboot?--
I thing that curiosity binds us all for who take security serious and is worth a deeper study.
I would do my own curiosity short if i would just delete an incoming infected email without at least looking which nasty is there and if it could be a new variant of a known thing, googling on internet for a description if possible so to recognize people's postings better if ever necessary. Think we also are bound by a mission to help other users out and enhance their system's security for the good of the internet community as a whole.
Others' curiosity goes lots deeper to know every possible bit and byte and way it all works and how it can be intrused and blocked etc..... hence the deep technical discussions here (in which i hardly take part myself)
Aren't we all together a beautiful security bird with a mission floating all over internet?

Thanks for the applause, karma cookies, kudos, flowers, happyness is nicest when sharing as we are!

However did I miss this thread. Jooske deserves a great big thank you from me also. She helped me by advising how to set up security and helped me out of a nasty virus infection ..... not just a post but she spent many hours and a few days to help me through. Thumbs up Jooske for a job well done and still doing. Needless to say, I have learned a great deal on these forums so thanks Jooske along with several others who devote their time to help others.

Hi Yvonne - welcome to Wilderssecurity. No question is too dumb to ask and when you do need help, just ask & you will get all sorts of help. I know I did.

Jooske - my computer has not had an infection since you and LWM and Philli & The Joker, took the time to educate me on computer security. ;)

Jooske
October 4th, 2003, 02:33 AM
Hi to you Yvonne too! Yes it's kind of educative environment here.
When i made my first email support steps to Wayne and team, i thought sometimes (or more often maybe) my questions, remarks or observations of minor importance or dumb. But they showed me all time those things are important too and can change a whole diagnose idea of the computer's welfare. But we need to have the state of mind wanting to learn and to grow.
On the other hand it can happen you think to do a terrible great discovery and it's just part of a normal process :)
With the beta-testing i like to start the program to be tested, open notepad (have that thing on your taskbar at hand, always, very handy!!) and every key and what happens with that i note down and try again if something unexpected would happen -- save such a reportage frequently in between so in case you would get into trouble for some reason you don't lose those notes.
Depending on what and how i post the full reportage or just an overview or excerpt, so i'm used to look at some details and start to know my system rather well.
It's very educative to see the other team members remarks and their observations and what they are able to test with their systems and knowledge, etc, so i can grow again.
I try to be good in fool-proof testing ;D (quite an art, difficult after some time, really!)

Hello Jooske!

Jooske was the primary person to have helped us with this computer. When we first started with it - it had absolutely no security on it. It promptly caught some mal/spyware and got hijacked. Jooske guided us with patience and before long got us clean and free and now well protected and with "fully layered" security. (This is of course NOT the primary computer within Q Section but only a test computer. The intelligence people (I Section) have, of course, all the security needed but they are too busy for us to disturb.) ;D

Now after almost one year we are assisting others with computer defense information and still learning.

Thank you, Jooske!

For those of you who may have missed it earlier - here is Jooske when she was younger:

Thank you guys! Nice image! You see, that crystal ball still had no DCS reflection in those early days. Wished it had, as it would have saved lots of early steps in the internet world from disaster! (for me it would!)

And that bag of chips came from the InnerPeace script in TDS i guess? Or computer chips? :)

We're fortunately here all learning from each other.
I like the forum here and the DCS forum "at home" as it's rather informative all time so no wasting of time to learn and get info on topic.
Thanks guys and gals all being here to fill in the gaps in our knowledge and having lots of fun in security!
So happy knowing your system is safe and getting better and in case of something wrong so many hands are there to pick us up!
Don't you feel it as if it is your own system when somebody is in trouble and could lose precious data and helping to prevent all the trouble of a new install and all that?

I know, I know, it’s just that on this old antiquated system of mine I’ve got to watch my System Resources. I’ve got so much security stuff that I’ve already had to remove some security programs to make way for others, so there is no way I can add any new stuff. :'(

Jooske
November 2nd, 2003, 06:40 PM
But Acadia, with DCS stuff there is no need for much other stuff but a firewall and an av/at scanner? Maybe for the moment some anty-spy, which doesn't all need to run permanent, maybe JavaCools spy protection --not sure about the resources of those-- .....
Besides, the DCS programs are all so very small as possible, so you won't miss all the other you uninstall.
At the moment memory is so cheap, might be valuable to have a look into that direction too!
You will love to have the new DCS products which will be released or betatested soon, so have the system ready to enjoy it all!

Oh, yeah, RAM is NOT a problem, I've added a ton of that. I'm talking about System Resources which most of you who use Win2000 or XP have probably forgotten about since it is, for the most part, no longer an issue for y'all. I am unable to any longer use SpywareGuard simple because of my resources. I use BoClean instead of, what's it called, TDS?, again, because of resources. BUT in 6-8 months I plan on getting the latest and greatest, brand spanking new system; who even knows what pc's will be like then, although it looks like we'll all still be using XP since Longhorne has been delayed. Take care.

Hey - I'm only human.

I keep trying (more or less successfully) to come to terms with "real life" and to restrict the time I spend in these discussion forums. So I have been absent and have not noticed this thread, which I should have.
Also I try to save time by not always responding to every thread that I could say something useful on, thinking that someone else will be ready to say it.
And, yes, I admit it: sometimes I do feel a certain question is a dumb question. Then i will simply not respond to it. (But - in case you're worrying - I never remember who was the one who posted it, so I think (hope) that I'm not adressing any one with bad prejudices...) If I have a good day, and feel relaxed, sometimes I may even ignore that feeling and try to answer the seemingly dumb question seriously and as helpful as I can.

Well, with all that said, it makes me wonder if Jooske is human, too.
She is not helpful alone, she seems to be always present, always ready to share her knowledge about an issue, even ready to spend some more time researching issues mentioned (just so she can help in the discussion), and all that always open-hearted, nice and friendly, answering even the most, say, basic questions. And her contributions to "atmosphere-only" threads like TenForward or the "lighter note" threads over at DCS make for a good deal of the warm and friendly atmosphere I appreciate so much at wilders and dcs. To me this is a miracle. I do mean it.

In (philosophical) ethics "superergoratory" is an action or a behaviour that is of the morally highest value, but cannot be demanded because doing so would be to ask too much of a human being.

So actually I am wondering if I may say:
Keep it up, Jooske!

What I may say anyway: I'm admiring it and want to thank you for it.

Hugs,
Andreas

Ahh! You're one of the great teachers on the forums with more then advanced knowledge of so many subjects, always helpful and most worth mentioning opening the SS3 scripting world for us and adding the wonderful Screx script for enhanced security and more options for TDS users!

I think i emailed lots of what i thought dumb questions to DCS support in the past, but the reactions were always respectful and showing me the lose or dumb remarks were not stupid at all but had a certain content and to check or change things on my system or to explain backgrounds about those.

Did not create a forum visiting msagent/robot script yet, voice commanded and writing around, so it must have been myself writing.

Wayne said they don't get too many support emails from me anymore at DCS, and i don't take that as a complaint, but part as a little compliment and as a proof of the good funtionality of the forums where we all can contribute!
But to make sure email is still ok i'll write some little notes at times ;D

""
YOUR COMPUTER IS A CASTLE

If I wrote a technically accurate tutorial with each and every detail of the techno mumble jumble thrown in (plus a few thousand pages of computer schematics) it probably would not be of much help to most people. You would probably be just as confused as the day you opened the box (the one your computer came in) and wondered, "How do I put this darn thing together?". So instead, I am going to present the ideas within this tutorial by disguising them as something else, something far simpler, something that even an adult (lol) can understand. I am going to present them to you as a "castle". Your castle. And I am then going to present the problems that most of you will encounter on the Internet as problems you would also encounter with owning your old castle. Maybe it sounds dumb, but if you read the following information - an hour from now you are going to feel like a genius. You will be able to describe all kinds of cool things to your friends, and while not being a computer geek, you will be able to sound like one.

YOUR CASTLE HAS ARRIVED

Boom! Something just happened - you're not sure what - but somehow you have been magically transported back in time. You just left the age of computers and entered the land of brave knights, fearsome dragons, and of course castles. But hey! You don't have a castle. So after some haggling at Castles-In-A-Box with a salesman named Sam, who offers you a world of complicated gadgets and calls it the simplest thing on earth, you finally order yourself up a new castle.

A few months later your castle arrives. It's in pieces. There are stacks and stacks of bricks, boards, lumber, doors, windows (portals) and spires each with a series of numbers and letters inscribed upon it. Of course you are not one for following directions; you throw caution to the wind and begin stacking bricks. Six months later you have a large stack of bricks and nothing that even vaguely resembles a castle. Finally you give in and hire the ten year old kid from next door (smug little ....... ) and a week later your castle is complete.

You have achieved your life's greatest dream. You are now officially the king (or queen) of your own castle.""

hmm. maybe so, but then I'm at most a teacher with limited patience, energy and benevolence, virtues which i seem infinite in your case.

Well, I think it's sometimes hard to see that certain content. But I fully agree that it is practically always there. So, to see it and to respectfully and enlighteningly (is that a word?) respond to it is sometimes a hard thing to do - still you never fail to do so, tho. That's what I meant with me sometimes not reacting on questions that i feel to be dumb - i lack the energy to look for the not-at-all-dumb point in it.
Then again, you have your crystal ball to help you ;)

Hi Acadia,

Thanks for the compliment. The main reason for that is that we firmly believe, that the only dumb questions are the ones that are not asked.

However obvious the answer to a question might be, it doesn't matter how you find it, and Wilders is as good a place as any.

And Jooske certainly is one helper that goes to any lengths in providing the answers.

We have not only patience with dumb questions, as we just decided those are not considered to excist at all.
This leaves the --probably dumb-- question if this meana patience doesn't excist either or is it that we put all our patience and time in all the rest?
Let's say the latter :)
Guess people who have so much patience themselves are the first to recognize it in others, is that true?
Think Pieter's postings counter is growing with amazing speed, even the stars changed color in the meantime, and nobody dares to use his/her computer anymore without a hijackthis log being scanned through and getting Pieter approval.
It's all part of the Wilders experience (exitement?)

We don't make any difference between licensed TDS (and other DCS programs) users and those who don't know those programs yet if it comes to helping people in the forums, although in case of problems it's easier to refer to those tools we know so well ourselves.
It's a mission of keeping computers clean from intrusions, infections, destruction and making that a happy experience where possible. The eternal battle between light and dark.
It's the mission of DiamondCS, and from the whole forum. You'll notice many people jump one and back between both forums, so you'll see us there in the DCS forum and as licensed TDS operator in the Private TDS forum too.
Close to 4900 postings here, close to 4000 there, a few thousands of support emails, IMs, learning from reading other postings... Good the forum is kept serious and educative where possible so we're not wasting energies here!
Always nice when users are helped with their systems!

>"My post just got killed"
What happened?
If you lost your posting for some reason (can happen to all of us) it might be advisable in future to copy your text from or to notepad (or at least to the clipboard) and keep that up after pressing the send button till you see your posting succeeded, especially when it's a longer text. (For people who don't know this: contr+A to select all text, contr+C to copy text to clipboard, contr+V to paste it in a new posting or notepad, wherever you want)

Thank you for your kind words Little Eagle! I love eagles, we don't have them overhere like the big ones over in the Americas, although in other parts of Europe there seem to be a few again. In one of those famous pow-wow dancers groups performing overhere was one person named Little Eagle so your name immediately attracts attention of course.
Anyway, because of how DCS is i love DCS, and i think DCS-addiction is a very healthy and secure addiction anyway. They are one of the main reasons beside the software itself of course why people love their products so much! Support is a very important part of that!
We all learn over the years to use the software on our own systems in our own ways -- some just as a set and forget and others as central on our system about ruling our whole household with it!
So once you have your TDS all up and running make sure to include the speech and scripts parts to enhance the TDS experience even more!

Thanks again for the kind words and joining the DCS family! Have a nice karma cookie for that! yummieeeeee!

Hi guys, glad to be of help!

The kamacookie thing: we all love them, of course. You can give them for a posting f.e. clicking the "applaud" in somebody's posting, but after you posted 50 messages in the forums yourself. You can be rewarded with them yourself in the meantime by others though.
And you can't give the same person another cookie withing an hour. This to avoid some fans clicking and mountain up somebody's good karma in a very short time. :)

So keep posting, we all learn from your questions and solutions!

PS: i use every occasion for this reminder: Gavin (you know him among others from TDS) advises strongly to submit all suspicious files, files which could be false alarm, possible positive indentifications, files other scanenrs alarm on and other like TDS not, sub mit them all to him so he can advice you what to do with it submit@diamondcs.com.au
and a copy to your other product's lab. He says rather one file in 50 doubles or innocent in his mailbox then that one file could damage somebody's system! So don't be shy, just submit the things and see the results.
Thanks in name of the clean internet community!

;DJust came to say HI!!!
:)I'm not the Brightest bulb in the closet, but I do recognize all the Great help and advice you give. If you ever see me doing something out of line, Please let me know. My machine and I both thank You!
a ltl histry bout me. I have been trying to get enough knowledge together so that someday in the near future I can get a server up where ( end user's can learn ). My wife of 23 years just got her Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems / Computer Support Specialty. I'm am very proud of her, not because I paid for it, but because twelve years ago, she wouldn't even sit in front of one. We started a "BONFIRE" here, to borrow from a quote. I'm just a hunt and peck type of user, gamer. Mostly learned from making mistakes. We do have an extensive library to borrow from. My inept ability is what got me here to this forum. The folks here have such a great attitude, I find it very hard to leave. Time is running out, I want to see this get started for my wife. She should visit, but she gets so busy making house calls and subteaching at the high school that it's mostly left up to me. I crash and burn often and just recently had to start all over because I basically left myself wide open. It is a mistake that I won't make again. I REALLY appreciate the folks here at " Tha Wild Bunch" forum. I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone more and more each day!!
THANK YOU!!! ;D

How do you think most people learn, if they did not drop into the computer using in more structured educated ways? Drop and survive and get knowledge or burn fingers and computers maybe or learn on stage like you're doing at the moment too and growing, getting more education by each experience!
Another cookie for your courage and helping all with your postings too! Thank you thank you!

You will have noticed i also need help myself and feel very afortunate to be able to ask in this safe environment wheer people feel ok to ask and learn from each other all together. For a few weeks my rightclick menu problem was worked on and looking from several angles at it with many people and it is solved. The thread has lots of stuff for others might they ever run into registry problems themselves and finding names from who helped. So look how Mosaic1 running to help there: on several forums seen already as a very experienced registry specialist helping out many people back to a clean wellfuctioning system!
My own skill are mostly concentrated on how to work with the DCS software and msagents, speech technology and a few more things.
And a big fat google searchbar on top of my screen to look for reasonable answers if i don't know myself yet.
I do know like every windows user i should enhance my basic knowledge much more, like the registry part so fortune was calling for that, be it i only took a vew very basic steps to that by now.

You see? we're all teamplayers in the educative project of a safe walk through cyber discovery tune in on wilderssecurity.com channel and you never walk alone!

I send warm thanks to Jooske, who also together with the DCS people helped me over many days trying to isolate a hidden trojan. I was boggled by the care evryone had, and Jooske's tenaciousness. Jooske, people like you make the world into an accessible community. I had just begun translating my website into other languages, back when you helped me, and I decided to include Dutch, because of you. Having said that, you will have to wait a bit, I'm only halfway through the French, but it will come. As for dumb questions, to paraphrase Marilyn Waring from New Zealand, For every stupid question there is a room full of people who are immensely happy that someone had the guts to ask it. In her example, she bacame an MP and as a result of dumb questions, (she had no political training)
she got the bill passed to ban nuclear weapons form NZ.
All the best Jooske!

Thank you so much on our common way to growth!
Your site is remarkable and admirable, seeing there the trusted DiamondCS logo between all the other familiar words, hearing my most beloved wolf howl -- yes she is our teacher and our mother, keeping the pack on track.
I like your site and your trails.
A very fine Swedish person, Roger Rundqvist, taught us some chinese calligraphy and is a dream therapist among others over here.

In 1985 there was sent a proposed law to the U.N. to make possession of any nukes illegal on this whole planet, which law was signed and in effect from 1987. But that was 20 years ago and how is reallity?
But we keep our common dreams and dreams are yet another reality waiting to awake in this reality.

So keep our computers in good condition to keep all communication open for our awakening!

Thanks for your kind words! You and DCS Team and all the other folks at the forum are warriors in a fight against those that hamper the free flow of knowledge. Your weapons are intellect and illumination. You are all following a "path with heart." To me, that constitutes a tribe. I feel part of it, in my way, and be assured I will pass along any helpful knowledge I acquire in this field to others. The level of communication we enjoy today is unprecedented in mankinds history. Bravo to all who wish to seize this opportunity to make improvements for those yet to be born, and shame to those whose vision stops at their own 65th birthday. Tomorrow I will go for pannekoek in your honor. ciao

Nice to belong to such a tribe, isn't it?

Statistics show for internet useage it is growing very fast for people over 55 and especially older women looking for info and posting about their interests in forums, and many learn very fast to take security very serious. You would be surprised to learn how many of granny-age groups there are in the forums and here around. Maybe the pc keeps brains alert?

You are correct about the over 50 ladies on the internet! I have more input from this group than any other from my site. Yes, they are very concerned with security and realize the wasted opportunity for learning, when people purposely misuse the internet or harm someone's computer. My mother is a senior and together with her art teacher, they asked me to get their art on the web. It is nice work and I was glad to show it to the world. You can peek at it here http://www.followthelynx.com/page10a.htm. I was just thinking how to tie this topic into something relevant to DCS and I would say that in software design, copious user instructions, and simple interface, wins the day for this large group. They are so busy in their field of interest they just do not have time to learn all the tricks. :P and now to pannekoek! Good Morning! :P

Jooske
April 5th, 2004, 03:43 AM
Hope you enjoyed the pannekoek! with apple and lard and syrup and cheese all together? or butter and sugar only? :)
The artwork looks really fine and you did a good job adding it on your site.
Wait till they discover the TDS graphic threads going on now with the wallpaper in this forum, they might get inspired!
TDS is very impressive and even i learnt to use most of it ;D although realising it is unlimited in it's uses, certainly when we start adding scripts and tools we find useful for ourselves!
And then there are so many other programs and tools the DiamondCS guys create for us to live with (as we can't without we discover each day again)
So it's a learning joy for all of us!

April 5th, 2004, 08:18 PM
::)Thanks about the art. We used to groan when my mom would give a picture as a gift. Then several years later, with her teacher's help, we look forward to the next piece. OK I have to tell you my favourite pannekoek has a covering of huevos rancheros. It is mexican inspired, but the syrup mingles well with the tabasco and coffee washes it all down good. I still have many parts of TDS that I cannot operate with any degree of expertise, though I have a vague sense of what they do. I look at it positively, here is a software that keeps showing you new possibilities and is only limited by your own time to spend learning it. That is a real value. A fellow at my work today told me that he had read an article in a chinese website that described some symptoms that he was experiencing on his pc. The article called the bad thing a "wooden horse." He asked me, what is a wooden horse. I instantly thought that this could be the chinese translation of "Trojan Horse" as the chinese probably lack a word for trojan. Anyway over lunch, I told him about tds-3 and that it can find these things lurking. I think for sure he will want to purchase a license!

-{ Quote: "I don't see Port Explorer and Cryptosuite in your arsenal yet?" }-True as I have no use of PE, I leave this job to my firewall. And I am using PGP to crypt my email and Jap for my internet connection.

Jooske
May 31st, 2004, 01:35 AM
I use Port Explorer in addition to my firewall and i'm glad i do, as i can see hidden processes (connections) in and out which my firewall would allow through without my knowledge if those were trojans, or applications i run unaware of their outside life, the ability to spy on them, block them, kill them, throttle bandwidth of some applications, the utilities, using the whois and resolve to find answers where other tools leave me in the dark about the same, and i really tried a lot!
So Yahoo Premium business is not happy with my proof lot of the common spam originates from their servers even though they say it's not, and the advertised websites are stored on their servers with their own tech support, trying to remember where the embedded object data exploit emails get their trojan code downloads from, to name an example. Even the famous SamSpade tools didn't give me that info, but i found it with the tools. No, i would not like to be without. I just like to see what is happening on my system and have a hand in it to allow or not.
Lot in combination with TDS.
People who open a honeypot can see the packets and spy on them immediately to find out all about them.
See which application has to do with a connection, discover XP is dialing out while the firewall gives no kick, close the send traffic for the email client so you can safely wade through spam mails without sending out unwanted validation code to the spammers, etc.
See Port Explorer as an extra addition to the firewall.

CryptoSuite, i love for the functions, quality, the encrypted chat, more to come.

Cool Jooske, but my friends already called me paranoid freak ;D

Regarding Spam I got my own way to deal with it and I do not have to complain as it works pretty well.

Hi guys,
I first like to thank everybody for all the friendship, educative and supporting experiences. Seeing you getting your systems back on trail with my favorite tools has been a joy at all time.
Now TDS is closed, we can expect new tools and DiamondCS products to be added to our toolkit soon enough.
At this, i'm in the same position as many others: all new to me too.

I like to ask you guys some favors. I'll need help as well with new tools, getting to know them, etc. So your patience please and feel free to step in when there are users in need, like many of you always do already. With this i hope to make clear i'm not intending to go nowhere else as long as i'm able to help people out.

Another urgent favor: i am in urgent need for a job with a salary as i lost mine. I know i'm devoted but now to find an employer who is convinced as well enough to hire me.
I live in the west of the Netherlands, btw.

I would have liked to start a "ThankYou Wayne" thread but the TDS discontinued thread in the TDS forum became that already. But remember it was the Wayne-team helping me starting and getting where i am now, together with your support.
So big thanks to all of you!

You're welcome guys!

Screx is Andreas1 's product, he's still around and if i noticed well in the private forum is putting some new life into that project.

Even though TDS will no further being developed and updated, it has still lots of other valuable features, like the networking tools, auto-start analyser, process list, exec protect, scripting, speech (fun) and much more.

Yeah, with the scripting, speech and msagents we had lots of fun and can still have!
Wonder if it would be possible to include our TDS chatbots with msagent into Jason's CryptoSuite chat.

Looking forward to what Wayne and team have in mind for us as a new experience on new paths for all of us!

Jooske was the first person to welcome me to the TDS-3 forums and the first to offer help when I ran into problems.
Thanks for everything, gal.

Jooske,
I'm only new here but reading the comments of others regarding the kindness you have shown so many for so long I would simply like to say that "you are a very special person and the world is a better place for your presence"

Best Wishes,

Jooske,
I can't remember if I have posted in this thread or not; but no matter, it doesn't hurt if I say it twice (and judging by the size of this thread there are plenty of other people that agree)

Here is a big THANKS for all the help you have given and continue to give to all the people that cross your path

Products (and people) come and go, but you have been around for the long haul and are still actively helping people and that is no small achievement. As I am sure you already realise, the help and advice you have given to people has lasting benefits well beyond the use of a particular product or tool.

Thank you guys!
True, with the size of the forum and all the problems, advices and other products and solutions, we all grow and walking together on our never ending journey.
It takes lot of reading to keep up with all that, isn't it? 8)
There's no limit in postings in this thread, twice, keep them coming those postings! ;D
Thank you thank you!
