NOD32 blips from screen and crashes while scanning

I just purchased NOD32.
When doing a full system scan, it get to my 'system32' folder and just blips right off my screen and the scan end, or, I should say it crashes.
Now here is the really odd part.
I tried to narrow down what file or folder was causing this.
So, I went inside 'system32' folder and scanned all of the files and folders in that tree. Worked fine.
If I go to my 'windows' folder and pick the 'system32' folder and do a complete scan from there, it crashes. Does this every single time.
Also, I wanted to look at the log file to try and pick up what it is doing, and it's not writting the log file, not appending or nothing. (nod32.log)
So, I uninstalled, got the NoNOD32.reg file and cleaned my reg of all of NOD32, reinstalled, blah, blah and it still does the same thing. Just vanishes from the screen in the middle of a scan.
I was able to scan my entire PC except for 'system32' folder.
Ideas?

One possibility is that you do not have access (or NOD32 does not have access) to the C:\Windows\system32 folder, but you have access to the files and folders inside. Yes, this is odd, but it is possible. Which version of Windows are you running. Right-click on this folder, look at the Security tab (if you have one), and compare it with other folders.

Another possibility is that the security descriptors in the NTFS file system are not quite right. This is simple enough to fix, though. Right-click on your C: drive, go to Properties --> Tools --> Error Checking, click "Automatically fix file system errors", hit OK, and reboot.

Hello . I suggest you reinstall NOD32 ... yes , you have already done it but I bet you made it in a wrong way .
So goto Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> find it and click on remove . In just a few seconds , restart your computers.

Then goto C:\Program files and manually delete the folder ESET .

Then , download the latest version of NOD32 for your operating system and install it
http://www.eset.com/download/registered_software.php

After you install it , make sure you have a firewall . Make sure the firewall allows NOD32's nod32krn.exe is allowed for access to the internet

Update NOD32 manually.

Then , configure it correctly using Blackspear's settings here:

Then , perform full scan and let us know how it goes then ;)

XP/SP2 Home Edition retail. FAT32, not NTFS.
I have all files and folders shown, not hidden, and all extentions are shown.
No security options on that folder.

Why don't you reinstall with formatting to NFTS ?

DAW= Digital Audio Workstation.

FAT32 performs far better for multiple streaming audio tracks than NTFS.

And, this is the main reason I purchased NOD32 -- to lighten up my system.

I have contacted NOD32 Tech Support and they are working on it. I was hoping I might find something in here.

Have you tried to perform a scan while you were booted into safe mode?
If things go well in safe mode, perhaps some malware will be found and deleted?
After that, a scan in normal mode should be completed normally

If the scan goes into "crash-mode" :gack: maybe you should check your harddisk, maybe there is damage in the system32 folder??

If I scan all of the files and folders FROM INSIDE 'system32' folder, it works fine.
If I go to 'windows' folder, hightlight JUST the 'system32' folder and scan, it crashes.

This eleminates the idea of something bad in the folder, becuase can actually scan all the files.

And yes, it does the same in safemode.

Do you have any other security software on your pc? Anything that could be blocking access to the system32 folder? (rather than its contents)

have you had Norton installed on the same pc before? that can cause problems if not removed properly.

also have you tried scanning again but with the 'List all files' option ticked in the NOD32 setup? After its scanned and crashed, checked the Scan logs and it may show the log of the scan (may show is 'running') - check in there for the last file scanned to see if it really is a problem in the folder you think. You may be able to work out what the next file is and whether scanning that file on its own causes a problem.

other than that - you could try scanning but with some options deselected - like archives or mail folders. i had a problem with nod32 crashing/disappearing when it scanned my mail folders - in the end it disappeared when i installed the latest beta.
