Hey just a thought.
Wouldn't it be good to name your Diff files when setting up to something other than i.e. Backup1, Backup2.
In examples of more elaborate schemes, it'd be nice to do this.
i.e on Monday, Full is named BACKUP-WEEK1
For Diffs the rest of the week, they could be named BACKUP-WEEK1-DIFF1, DIFF2, DIFF3, etc
Second week, BACKUP-WEEK2-DIFF1, DIFF2, so so.

I just started using Acronis and I don't remember seeing this in the s/w or here in the wish list.. If this is avail already, ignore this, remind me to RTFM, blah blah.. yah, yah ..

What does TI name them now? Wouldn’t it be BACKUP-WEEK12, BACKUP-WEEK13 …?
The numbers in the image name tell you that the image is either a DIFF or an INC.
You could, for clarity, name the FULL “BACKUP-WEEK1_”, so that the DIFFs would be BACKUP-WEEK1_2, BACKUP-WEEK1_3 etc.
If TI let users run wild with the naming of images, it would be very easy to lose track of what’s what and delete something you really didn’t want to. Then you’d get somebody complaining that “Acronis destroyed my backups” because they forgot what they named things.

TI now names them i.e. BACKUP for the full and BACKUP1, BACKUP2, etc for diffs, incs.

"The numbers in the image name tell you that the image is either a DIFF or an INC."

Well...nah. Not really - to the person setting it up yes. But to others? Like a new admin or trusted staff? No.

"You could, for clarity, name the FULL “BACKUP-WEEK1_”, so that the DIFFs would be BACKUP-WEEK1_2, BACKUP-WEEK1_3 etc."

I can go along with that in my case anyway.

Users? You mean like in a organization? Well they certainly would or should not be setting this up!
You're misunderstanding the point. Its not a case of running wild....
I would say that even people buying the personal versions should be able to handle that. There's lots packages that let you name the backups whatever you wish. In a business case, packages like Backup Exec let you create your own naming conventions.. cause tape # 9164756$#@! as the default doesn't mean much. Nothin new there...

Anyway, I was gonna suggest from a programming pov, that the 1,2,3 appended suffix still ok but we could have the ability to place text in front of it like ...oh I don't know..
"DIFF" maybe??!

T" }-Oooops, OK, duh. I thought you could but you have to select the full backup and that locks in the naming of the diifferential or incremental.

I guess a workaround for now is to use a post execution batch file to do some renaming, but that would have to be reverted to the original name to keep ATI from choking on restore. Quite a kludge.

It seems like even the program automatically appending a "D" or an "I" to the file name would be helpful.

Yeah I wouldn't want to start renaming after the job... could get u into trouble.

An append like you suggested sure.. I think so anyway.
An app like this should be able to do that. I'll send it to the wish list or Acronis desk.
