Which of the following firewall/ AV combo choices do you use....or WOULD you use....if money and current availability are NOT a concern?

1) KIS 6
2) Look 'n' Stop + KAV
3) Outpost Pro + KAV
4) Look 'n' Stop + NOD32
5) Outpost Pro + NOD32
6) Eset Security Suite

:) Let me be the first #5 no question.

The key wording: "...or would you use..." ;)

I voted for number four since that is what I WANT to use, but I was given a license for number TWO instead, so life goes on ;D

I used Outpost Pro and NOD32 as the only realtime protection software for 2 years and during that time I was visiting "nasty" webpages, downloading from them & I never got infected. ;)

But both KAV and NOD32 are great AVs, they will protect PC along with Outpost Pro anytime.

Useing NOD32 and Outpost I have never got infected, and it will stay that way. I decided to do a online scan with KAV after I did a scan with NOD32. KAV came up with nothing, and KAV took 3 times as long to scan my HD.

Using number 5 Outpost Pro + NOD32.

Regarding choice 3, it depends on which version of KAV as there are reports KAV 6 & Outpost don't work well with KAV's mail/web AV turned on. When they are disabled, both work Ok, but this mightn't apply to everyone.

Sorry... I could not vote for now coz I'm only on a slow dial-up connection, so I am just using windows built-in firewall with NOD32 trial version. ;D ;) so far..my pc is not infected and it's still running fine. 8)

LnS + NOD32, I'm very happy with this combination, hardly felt running on my laptop

Wow! It is interesting (and reassuring) to see multiple comments on using Windows SP2 FW + NOD. I voted Outpost Pro + NOD because that's what I use on my comp. The family's shared comp, hpowever, is using Windows FW + NOD. Great stuff!

I voted Outpost Pro + NOD because that's what I use.....

but I'm surprised that more have not voted Outpost Pro + KAV.

Imho, F-Secure AntiVirus Client Security (not to be confused with the 'lighter' F-Secure Internet Security) is the very best. ;)

If my current NOD32 license would be upgraded for free to Eset suit, I would probably have a go at it.
My firewall is old and outdated.

Matrix.. Easy to see who/what are connected to your PC at this moment.

Easy for who, Brian? The developer of the software? :P ;)

Looks kinda interesting.....but a little more like eye candy for geeks than useful info for novices.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for all of the responses. I figured this would be an interesting poll, with some fairly close results.....

But it's actually quite simple. On the right it shows you how much data is being transfered, on the left it shows all the servers and/or people that are connected to your pc. Then you can see their line color and determine how much stuff they are sending to you and vice/versa.

This is awesome for blocking ad servers, wannabe hackers etc :)
The cool thing about this firewall though, is that if some hacker tries to get into your system (and succeeds by disabling the firewall), it will automatically shut down the PC to stop the attack because Windows can't function without it (when the firewall is installed).

Look n' stop with NOD32 works perfectly on my system. It offers good protection and does not use many resources.

I used the same combination for awhile without any problems. Unfortunately NOD32 stopped working after the trial period. ;D

When I was in Canada I had Nod32 with Look n' Stop and both worked fine as a team. When I arrived in California I had a Linksys wireless router already installed with KAV and it worked fine but a couple of weeks after when I installed all my graphic programs, they started running VERY slowly and I decided to replace KAV with NOD32 and I haven't had any issues since then.

Currently running OutPost pro+Nod32,.. but this changes constantly.

iceni60
September 26th, 2006, 01:20 AM
i always used Kerio 2.1.5 with F-Secure and/or AntiVir

BTW that Matrix program is very similar to Etherape (for Linux) apart from with Etherape the speed and direction of the transfer is shown by the shape and thinkness of the 'lines' and the colours show which protocol is being used.

Hey WSFuser - you didn't stick with Outpost for very long....any particular reason? Was there anything that you didn't necessarily like about it?

WSFuser
September 28th, 2006, 07:11 PM
when used alongside Prevx1, outpost caused unreal tournament 2004 to connect to the main server quite slowly. i then decided to try KIS (the firewall is a bit similar to outpost), and i noticed UT2004 connected a bit faster. plus, by using a suite i save some (memory) resources.

ESET security suite. I think it will be a nice one. Till then L'N'S and NOD32 if I should choose only from the options posted in the poll. Anyway, I'm using other firewall currently. ;D

I have now did away with both Nod32 and Dr.Web antivirus and use NAV 2007, with internet intrusion protection.
