This comes up to anyone that doesn't post to Wilders - well how, frequently?
It would be nice if the "wording" of this was changed to something somewhat more board-friendly?

Frank Zappa isn't alive to comment, although I sincerely wish he was.

It's a "board-friendly" incentive for them to make that 50th post  :P

Just for kicks and grins....what names did you have in mind ?

I wasn't aware that Wilders had such an incentive. 50 posts and you're OK?
Hmmm....

BTW - I'm an Infrequent Poster.

Nobody in mind, just throwing out that comment for consideration.

It would be nice if the "wording" of this was changed to something somewhat more board-friendly?" }-We've had a lot of different member title steps here, and all have suffered from various objections. Early on, we used the default ranking steps that came with YaBB SE. It started with 1-50 posts being a Newbie. We got lots of complaints on that one. I'm not a newbie. I've been doing this for years and know more than you do about xyz!. Fine. :-\

So, we changed the first three steps to some used at other boards: Junior Member, Member, and Senior Member. Then came the complaints on that. Junior? I'm 65 years old. or I'm not junior, I've got a Computer Science degree and 17 certifications!. And the ever popular, Why does that guy get to be a Senior Member, from what he posts it's clear he doesn't know half of what I know in this area! Fine. :-\

So, we thought about it for a bit, and came up with our current steps:

179432

And yes, there are complaints about these, too. The best complaint is from those in the upper "Massive" title ranges. They say it makes them feel fat. Well, I like to say it's not a matter of being fat, it's just we're "big fonted". :shifty:

Anyway, we're going to stick with this title set for awhile. :D

I merged your thread with the on going one. You'll find your answer in post #4 (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=765921&postcount=4) of this thread (the linked image (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=179432&d=1149384007)). ;)

hi LMW!

well, I think that the given title set is incomplete.

For example...Pls. have a look at these titles enjoying by some members:-

Member Name - Title
=========== ======

Wildman - Wild Thing !!
Mercurie - A Friendly Creature
NicM - nico nico
BeetleBoss - She who posts lots of smileys
Marja - Honestly, I'm not a bot !!
bettlejuice - Forum Friend
.....
.....
.....and many more.
==================

I personally do not hv any problems with the given titles.

Just for my curiosity... If you could explain

what are these out-of-line titles for? ...and

what criteria you have set for these out-of-line titles?

They aren't asked for, they're simply given. ;) There is no criteria - Well actually there is one criteria if one is requested ... it'll sure never come to past. How they come to be, is usely derived from a personality trait, a unique thread ... or something alone those lines - it's a spur of the moment thing. :)

WTF, it really doesn't matter. What matters is if you get your question answered or not. 8)

Fellow spelunkers,

I don't mind 'infrequent poster' 'cause I'm an old man and got lots of time to post. I am on a another forum that uses military titles. I really don't like that. If I had wanted to have a martial title, I would have remained in the military.

Why not just put the number of posts as the title? Would that insult any one? We would have your number.

itd be boring not to have titles and besides, they make identifying staff easier. their names have colors but the titles give a nice touch.

"Regular Poster" as a tittle sure beats a tittle such as "SPAMANATOR", madeup for this guy at a forum I go to. Unfortunately no one there could comeup with a less ruder sounding rank, so a bunch of us are stuck with this rude sounding tittle

heres an interesting idea: what if ur title reflected your average posts per day, instead of total posts?

idk, im just throwing out some suggestion...

Hi Everyone,

I think it could be a good idea if people representing Vendors (even on a non-official basis, like me) were flagged as being a "representative of".

This would help visitors that come here infrequently who may not know the regular crowd, or may have missed messages from months ago where individuals introduced themselves as being "rep of" or "working for".

Here is my little suggestions in this regard:

Point in consideration: One can easily notice that WSF displays the information about the total posts at the top right-hand side along with the ID & title on the left-hand side. One can easily guess and understand about his/her posting nature by seeing the total posts figure. So I think there is no need to specify it separately through titles in the same line. Instead, titles should be used to reflect his expertise, personality, the way he/she is useful/helpful for WSF etc.

So, it gives two broad categories:

[1] Regular Member: for all the normal posters without any expertise on any perticular field

[2] Other titles like Administrator, Global Moderator, Security Expert, Firewall Expert, She who posts lots of smileys, etc. : As per his/her expertise, personality, position in WSF, the way he/she is useful/helpful for WSF etc.

In this way we will be able to have more information about any member and his/her true nature in WSF.

I'd like to thank everyone fot the thoughts, but, as I said above, we're going to be leaving things the way they are for the time being. (Some of the ideas would be technically difficult to implement based upon how the forum software works, while others would be hard to accomplish given the manual effort or coordination they'd require.)

As we won't be changing this, I'm going to close the thread now.
