I installed SpywareBlaster this morning, but it didn't get rid of the problem.

I have this toolbar that I can't get rid of (surferbar), it keeps defaulting my homepage to surferbar.com, in spite of resetting it and disabling the default settings. I keep getting annoying pop ups from surferbar.com to add to the insult.

Will downloading SpywareGuard help get rid of the toolbar and related annoyances?

I am at my wits end!

I do appreciate everything that is available for downloading - I just want my browser back!!

BTW - I have IE 6

Spywareblaster only (to my knowledge) prevents things from installing - although I think it also stops some stuff from working if it IS already installed. All the same, I suggest you give Spybot; Search&Destroy a shot. It's more of a hunter where Spywareblaster is more of a sentry.

Thanks for the reply!

Already got Spybot - didn't pick it up :(

I just read the New Hijacker/Trojan thread.

Looks like I've got a mess on my hands.

Sure do appreciate all of the help on this board - you guys are super!

Hi shugg,

AdAware just updated his spywarescanner for this hijack.

You can download Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware
After installing AAW, and before running the program, update by using the Globe icon.
Then shut down and restart Ad-Aware.
Now press "Scan Now", "Select drives\folders to scan" and select the active partition (usually C: ), then 'next', and let Ad-Aware scan your drives.
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again.
Rightclick in that pane and choose "select all" and click 'next'.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.
Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

If that doesn´t do it post your HijackThis log (http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/)
Download, Unzip and run HijackThis. Then click Scan > Save log, save the log as a .txt file and copy & paste its content into your next post.
Don´t fix anything yet. Most of what it finds is harmless.

Regards,

Pieter
