Hi All,

I have been running NOD32 for a couple of weeks now and am having a problem with the auto update feature that I hope ya'll can help me with.

In the Scheduler/Planner, I have deselected the default regular auto update that checks every hour for new updates. I have added a daily update that is configured as follows.

Task:
Update - NOD32 Update

Scheduled:
at the first computer startup of the day

In case it will not be performed at the scheduled time:
task will be run as soon as possible

Special task settings:
<none>

The problem is that this new daily update will never update automatically. I have to maunually update.

Any suggestions as to whyt this feature will not work?

Running - Win XP SP1

Daniel,

Did you:

- Control Center > NOD32 System Tools > Schedular/Planner: disabled/deleted other tasks?

- Control Center > Update : automatic update is scheduled enabled?

- Control Center > Update > Advanced: configured this one as it should be?

regards.

Thanks Paul for the reply. I am pretty sure that all is configured properly as you suggest but I will make sure tomorrow morning as I have this PC at work. I will let you know then.

Thanks

The daily update is setup and configured correctly as you suggest. I can disable the daily update and enable the defualt hourly update and the auto update will function correctly. But when I disable the default hourly update and enable the new daily update that I setup, the auto update does not function at all.

I am confused as to why this is happening. There should be no reason for the new daily update to not work correctly.

Hi Daniel,

Question:

How do you know that the update isn't working, updates are performed in the Background, so it is not noticable to you.

Hello Martin,

There are several ways to tell whether the update is working or not.

1. The first and foremost is that I have the updates configured (update>setup>type of update) to notify me before downloading any virus signature database or program component update. This will notify me that an update is available and ask if I would like to download it at this time.
2. The second way is to look at the configured update in the Scheduler/Planner. There is a column for "Last triggered on" which gives the date and time the last update check was perfomed.
3. The third is to look at the Event Log to see when the last update has occurred. When you go a week without an update line item in the event log and then check the update manually and find an update was available four days ago, you know then it is not working.

Got any ideas as to why the new update is not working?

I am still not able to get the auto update to function when configured as an event triggered - first computer statrtup of the day.

I set another update configured as daily - at 07:30 - task will be run as soon as possible if cannot run at that time. Well, it works fine if I have the computer turned on before 07:30 each day but will never update if the computer is started after 07:30.

I was under the impression that update would occur right after I started the computer anytime after 07:30 since it is configed to run as soon as possible if cannot run at the scheduled time.

How do others have the auto update configured? (twice daily, once daily, computer startup, etc.)

Hi Daniel,

Since i have cable connection, the default schedule has been left in place (every hour).

Daniel M,

I am using the 2 default update settings that were already set by NOD32 (at dial up connection and hourly) and they both run as scheduled, judging from the logs.

how do you connect to the internet? are you on cable or dsl? i noticed that you have your update scheduled on computer startup. i don't have broadband so i'm guessing you have updates set on computer startup because you have a broadband connection and you are connected to the net as soon as your computer starts up, yes?

because i am on a 56k dialup connection, mine is scheduled to update on dial up connection to the internet, not on computer startup.

if the hourly updates work, why not change the hourly interval to every 6, 12 or 24 hours? you may see more "termination" errors in your logs which occur when you are not connected to the net and NOD tries to update, but you can just delete those entries.

just some suggestions, hope you get it to work for you :)
