Have seen the test, and the winner is (again) the AV which company-name is not very beloved by a lot of people, but only facts counts, and the winner is a top-notch AV, that fact I know already for a long time. ;)

That the scan engine of McAfee VirusScan is top notch is no secret. ;) More intresting I found was that NAV2004 new unpacking engine failed completly whereby NOD32 could increase the detection in this area but there is still much room left for improvement. :)

Hello, but I am having trouble with what you are saying..
According to the test. NAV wasn't top of the line, but did do better than NOD32...

What do you mean by "failed completely"?

Straight Shooter,

I believe Wizard was referring to the unpacking engine which had direct impact on the packer / crypter section of the test. In this section, NAV 2004 only scored 4.3%, whereas NOD32 scored 58.7%.

I believe NAV's performance in missing 95.7% (for whatever reason) would give anyone reason to qualify its performance in this section as a (almost?) complete failure.

To everyone from Firefighter!

As we already know about KAV, there is an option to change the update URL to detect dialers and other such kind of stuff by adding "_ext" to the end of those common updating URL:s. After that possibility would KAV be even more close to McAfee in that test!

Very good result for NOD32 in the unpacking area, it is even very close to DrWeb, that's something.

About F-secure, once again it was better than KAV in the unpacking area. But why only 5.40 version, there has been nearly a year a newer 5.41 version of that program?

In my mind, BitDefender was the biggest positive surprice, good luck to them!

I was refering back to the result of the unpacking engine only.

My problem with Mcafee is that it looks like an advertisement with somewhere a virusguard.

Rokop-Security is a team of currently eleven people which are focusing on different subjects. On the main website you can see which member is exactly responsible for a test or a review. The mentioned test above was done by Roman (Rokop). :)

But before we are getting to off topic here. There is a new english subforum at http://board.rokop-security.de to ask/discuss all these kind of questions and to give feedback. :)

The language of the software forum can be switched after the registration (which should also be possible for non-German speaking persons as it does not differ from other web forums) to english (Kontrollcenter -> Skins und Sprachen). Hope that helps. :)

Maybe there's somthing lost in the translation, or maybe someone can point out something I'm missing, but it seems that the results for NOD32 and PC-cillin are both "middling"--yet NOD32 is given props for it's good ITW ability, while PCC is "damned with faint praise".

Is this the case, or again, am I missing something here?
