Can someone please help me?
I have 98se installed on my computer. Lately when I try to install programs, the install fails because it says that 98se has to installed and that I only have 98. I know I have 98se because I have the original install cd and my computer properties says 98se 4.10.2222B.
Is there a program that will correctly identify my computer as having 98se?
Or, is there aynthing I can change in the computer?
Thank you,

Its possible that you have the older version windows installer on your computer.Click start>find>files or folders and put in Msiexec.exe and perform a search for the file.It should be in your windows system folder.Right click the file and click properties>version. The newsest version should be 2.0.2600.2.If its the older 1.1 version then download the newset one here.

Just a couple of thoughts. Is SE completely patched? I think MS updates still supports it. How long sense your last fresh install?

Well, that pretty much rules out an old\corrupt install. Is it fully updated? If so, then I`m out of ideas. Has been a long time sense I played with 98.

Not sure if that means you have all there are. ::) Here is a neat little program that will give you a good inventory of all the software on your PC, including any missing critical updates and links to download them. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html Really not sure just what the situation is....seems I remember something like that but it was many years ago. Hoping someone else will chime in with a fix.

It is possible your current windows installer has beome corrupted. It happened with mine once.Might be worth redownloading and reinstalling the windows installer anyway and see if that does the trick.

Belarc says I'm ok.
Downloaded the installer and tried to install it but, it said I already had it.
