AS you may know we have been witnessing the rescue of these poor blokes over the last few days and we are all very happy to be anticipating their release soon.

It is a true example of our twisted view of things.
And a possible reason for non-Australians finding us odd. !!

Having said that...

My many condolences to the family of Larry Knight, the other poor miner who did not make it. :(

At least some triumph come out of tragedy and Larry's family are graciously delaying his funeral service until the other two are freed.

Tough buggers, I would not have lasted 12 minutes let alone 12 days down there.

Yep,we've got a couple of true blue Aussies trapped down there.Tough as nails.

I laughed when they said they wanted to be out by Saturday so they could play footy for their local club.

Not just Aussies who's hearts are with them. We go thru that in coal country here in the US also. It's heartbreaking where ever it's happening.

Seems like I've seen a few of these over the years. Somehow, even when lives are lost and communities hurt - there is always room to celebrate those that have been saved.

No matter the money, what a hell of a way to earn it. I would not give up 14 hours trapped like they were let alone 14 days/night. :(

Absolutely. Fantastic stuff.

Watching the news/reports on it I think each and every one of the rescuers were heroes. The work they did was phenominal.

Loved one of the explosives experts story last night.

He said they actually 'practised' blasting at the 300 metre mark above them to see what sort/shape/amount of charge to use to blast the final metre of rock which was 5 times harder than concrete. :ouch: :ouch:

So once they dropped the first real charge [around the size of a shotgun shell] and immediately got on the communication line with the guys and asked them if they 'felt that' and were they ok. :-\

One of the guys said back: "Oh you big girl, stop mucking around and get into it". ROFL.

Still they took it cautiously and seriously and got a great result in the end which is all that matters. :thumb:

While I can only offer condolences in regards to the lost Aussie; what a good job was done to rescue those other two. What unbelievable spirit displayed by those two as well; it's almost hard to believe some of the quips they made! All in all the story is a good testament to Aussie spirit.
