Hi,

If for home users some paid products exist as alternative to RunAs (RunSafe for example), there's many useful tools which can do this job for free.
MakeMeAdmin and RunAsAdmin are some examples.

One of the most interesting is certainly SuperExec:
http://jc.bellamy.free.fr/en/superexec.html

Coded by Jean Claude Bellamy, a french specialist of Windows, this tool is very interesting to launch applications wich require administrator privileges: easy to use and to configure, it can also be used in a Lan.
I use it with no kind of problems since months.

Regards

Looks interesting, I will check it out. Basically it´s like DropMyrights but then the other way around right? But I have to admit that at the moment I´m not a real fan of running in non admin mode, it can be very annoying. And besides, with all these new anti-malware tools (HIPS + Sandbox) plus Software Restriction Policy (DropMyRights) combined with common sense you should be just as safe even when runing in Admin Mode. :shifty:

Hi Rasheed187,

I wonder if Mark Russinovich would agree that "all these new anti-malware tools...combined with common sense you should be just as safe even when running in Admin Mode"? Note: the operative word here is "should".

Recall, all he did was innocently play a Sony CD - while in Admin mode!

Sometimes what we need most is to be protected from the assumption that even our common sense will protect us! ;)

If I´m correct a good HIPS should have been able to stop the driver from installing and what I forgot to mention is that system hardening is also very important of course, a tool like XP Antispy could have saved his ass also. ;)
