Hi. A question for the forum.

Everytime I opem My Documents>>My Pictures and right click a file to select 'Send To', it takes quite a bit of time before the options are shown. And I have found that NOD is scanning the whole of My Documents without any prompting. How can I stop NOD from doing this? It's quite annoying.

Thank you.

Do you realize that all antivirus software (including NOD32) have real-time protection . NOD32's main protection is called AMON. This scans all files on-open , on-create ,on-execute.

When you use the "Send to" you copy files so they are being scanned everytime. If the files are big it will take some more time but don't forget that NOD32 is one of the fastest products in the world.

Yes, I DID know that other AV's scan in real time. But not every time I open My Documents. And by the way, I don't care for your patronising tone!!

I was enquiring if there was any way to stop NOD doing this.

Hi Tonser
I am not sure if you have already tried this... in AMON->setup->exceptions
Someone else may give you a better approach.
There are different schools of thought in adding any "exceptions" to AMON, so be a bit cautious in adding any exceptions.
Hope that helps.
Cheers :)

Adding the My Docs folder to exceptions of AMON would do it...
but this is not typical behavior....seems to be a problem here....

Do you have folder redirection of your My Docs? Or a roaming profile?

AMON > Setup > Options > Tick 'Optimize scanning'.
This will make AMON scan files only once unless they have changed or if NOD32 has been updated etc.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. It's much appreciated.

Hi-Tech Boy......you're apology is accepted ;)

Frera, I did add My Documents to the exceptions, but it doesn't seem to have worked.>:(

This sounds more like the behavior of a bad shell extension. What are the choices that you see when you right click?

When I right click a file, all the options are shown. 'Send to' highlights, when the mouse is placed over it as normal, and then it takes about 10-15 seconds before the other options are displayed. (ie Desktop, My Documents, DVD-RW etc etc).

OK, then it's most likely something odd in your "Send To" folder. It's located in c:\documents and settings\your user name\send to.

Look there and move any odd things out to a temporary location and see if the problem persists. Then move them back one by one until the problem starts to happen again.

I can't find the send to folder. I've looked in my user name folder, and there is nothing odd in there. My Pictures, My Videos, NOD32, Zone Alarm Pro, Trend Micro, My Music, Bit Spirit, Bluetooth. Nothing untoward I can see. Any other suggestions??.........Thanks

ps It only happens when the 'Send To' option is selected on ANY item, no matter where the location is.

Microsoft fixes that folder (along with others) so people (who in their judgement are beginners) will not screw up something. I'm going to defer to their judgement in this situation.
