F-Secure and Kav

Just wondering what everyone thought as to why F-Secure scores less
at Virus Bulletin? F-Secure should score the same or better, Being it has 3 engines including Kavs current engine. Any idea's? Thanks.

Poor VB...
it's not because those three extensions were not mentionned in the extens. list that F-Secure should not be award....it's does not reflect the real performance of this AV.
IHMO, F-Secure's still the best AV when it comes to detection rate...

I have to disagree ;)

- av-test.org is somewhat controversial these days;
- the Hamburg University is being bypassed by AV software vendors for testing more and more last years;
- virusgr. has been a one time (and therefore quite outdated) test - at least for the moment.

VB is worldwide accepted as the one and only ITW test center ;)

I know u like VB and NOD32 too.
but concerning the av-test.org, how is it controversial ?
VB's may be an expert but there is no VB monopoly !
AV-test/VirusGr. show how AV are really able to detect virus:
the rates of detection which are shown are not whimsical.
All tests tests I have seen converge towards the same conclusion:
F-Secure/AVK
KAV
McAfee
in this order

Hmm just wondering if the test methods of VB are poor why is it still the official magazine of the antivirus research community? And why is VirusBulettin still supported from nearly all antivirus companies? ;)

Anyway I agree with Paul: there is nothing wrong with VB tests. You might not like their results but their tests and testing methods are valid.

Try to understand me:
if you compare those tests, only the VB claims that NOD32 has a superior detection...
All the other tests show that NOD32 is correct but not excellent, as the VB seems to say...

Can you explain me why ?

I don't see that much difference. For example the last test from av-test.org I remember showed 100% ITW detection for NOD32. Same as VB.

Thanks for all the responses! It just did not make much sense to me. It would seem F-Secure with it's 3 engine design, including Kavs current, except for the just released out of Beta 4.5 engine. That F-Secure has the potential to be the best! Still weighing F-Secure & Nav 2004. Nav 2004 looks very good, Some very good new features, unpackers, etc.

I am still waiting for the proposed ' 6 new test results' which have been promised on the av-test site for a long time now. I am sure that some of these proposed tests were posted before, but were pulled down.

To return to the original thread.

Possibilities include the scan engines may be slightly different, that the (Default) settings for the Monitor and on-demand scanner are checking different files or that the virus definition updates available at the time of testing for KAV and F-Secure AV were out of sync with each other.

Both are top rate AV's.

you know I've bought NOD32 (late july), I've uninstalled it to put F-Secure AV...
but I'll read this link and who knows, may be I'll use again NOD... ;)

Seems a waste to buy a top notch AV and not use it. Why not have one as a backup; the NOD scanner would certainly race through checking your hardrive.
