When I am on a site and click to listen to music or watch video streamed through Media player, defender gives me the firewall/globally open ports alert.
I click allow as I have tried everything else to stop the alerts.
Does this mean if something else tried to get in that particular port, apart from media streaming, defender would allow it?

Hello,
Any software that communicates outside of your pc opens port.
While you were writing the post, your port 80 was open. Does that mean something can take over your pc? Not really.
Payload sent to an open port needs to be able to take over the services that listen to the particular ports. In your case, media player. If you have a fully patched media player, then the chances are low. However, even if you used an older version that has known bugs and can be exploited, you would still need to go to a site that has this particular exploit running to be potentially affected.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I understand it a bit better now!
As I have had to allow so many ports now ( up to 3 for each time I tune in to a station ) I just wondered what happened to them when I closed down.
