hiding IP

Is there any anyway to hide myIP address. My computer is not in network so I can not use the proxy server.. its just the standalone computer.

Is there any firewall which can do that.

I have used it and it works very well. I removed it because it took too long to load a page. Nonetheless a good program.;D

Yes, proxy slows down internet, but that is the price for the higher anonymity. :)

I'm using TOR+Privoxy and in FireFox I also use an extension called "ShowIP" which shows the IP of the website that I'm visiting.

Does this little extension cause any leak like DNS??? I use this extension because I use PeerGuardian and I can block bad sites by looking at the IP at the bottom of my FireFox .

Sorry for the delay, I just didn't see that the question was for me. I never used most of the mentioned programs so I don't know really. But just give it a try. Start with Jap (paid test version), because it is a ways faster (>100KB/sec).

Forget about Ghostsurf because it has a lot of privacy issues with it. When I tested it before 1-2 years I stumbled upon a discussions where was shown clearly that the company (Tenebril) was collecting personal info about surfers.

Isn't JAP embedded with a gov't backdoor due to German laws to that effect?

As far as I was following the discussions about that I understand that this concerns only visits to one particular site (now removed?). And because Jap is open source everyone can see what exactly happens inside the new versions. That's how this backdoor was found in the first place.

I think a lot of people keep a close eye on it and devs just can't afford to discredit themselves once again.

I think I don't need softwares to hide my pc coz my ISP was already doing that. Everytime I scan my pc with grc and sygate scanner for stealth, even if firewall is off, it's not my real IP address that was shown in the scan results. I was behind proxy, and stealth scan is useless for me. ;) :dry: :blink: Besides, I've heared that those programs can only slow down my surfing, so better not used it especially if you're in dial-up connections...:-[ better used anti-trojan monitor to stop them from stealing something from your pc. ;D 8)

Anonymity is a moot point. Check out the thread entitled "Clock Skew and Computer fingerprinting" in the Privacy Malware subforum.

You can never be "truly" anonymous as long as your computer fingerprint travels along with the packets you send. Synonym for fingerprint is timestamp.
