Are there any files excluded in the Scan options?

Files inside archives etc are counted differently by different scanners, and different scanners are able to scan inside different archive formats

]Hi :)
Not sure but it may be that NAV is also counting files within archives separately while TDS is not.
Hopefully someone will have a definitive answer to put forward :)
[Late Edit - LOL and they did!!! ;D ;D ;D ]

Hi Mul,
I'm afraid I will have to step away shortly so I can't run the tests for a while but I will post afterwards. for AVs I use NOD and KAV Pro so I will show comparitive stats from each

Okay, finally got all the scans done. ;)
I've been meaning to do full scans for some time but I kept putting it off. The totals of files scanned are as follows
Scanning Totals Comparison
KAV PRO
Files *** ******227020
NOD32
Files *********82784
TDS
Files*********112496
The discrepancies in the numbers are due to variations between the products on what types of archives are supported for their respective "scan within archive" options
Also, it should be noted that I have multiple eicar test files as well as two archived optix.pro vers and TDS found the most hits :)
Hope this helps,
Dan

Well I think if KAV scanned CHM files theres anywhere from 20 to 1000 HTML files inside one compiled help file - they all get scanned :D and it would report files like .txt - it WAS scanned in a sense, the scanner was smart enough to skip it :) Numbers are as misleading as anything..
