If I type "microsoft.com" into my browser's "Address" window, it automatically changes itself to http://www.microsoft.com and goes there.

But you're right, SamSpading both 207.46.245.214 and 207.46.245.222 will both fail ping attempts (10 each).

Perhaps it has something to do with them "extinguishing" Windowsupdate.com? ( http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,7694561~root=security,1~mode=flat ) ?

Either by design or by chance? (Do any of my relatives work there? ;D ). Pete

I stiil can't understand when I ping www.microsoft.com I get reply from a652.cd.akamai.net.
Doesn't look like Microsoft related.

Actually, it does. MSoft has recently chosen to use akamai in order to avoid server overload. It's not that unusual ;).

Thanks for clarification, but fror Microsoft it doesn't help that much, still can't reach Micorsoft update, in order to get the patch for Servicepack 4 >:(

According to Microsoft, consumers can update their computers by visting the web address:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

or the main Microsoft website page at:

http://www.microsoft.com where information is available on downloading patches.

Good luck... :)

;) I don't think they're down...just "unavailable" at times, due to a unusual number of users all going for updates at the same time. I just went to check for updates earlier, and at first, got a very strange window that said just that "Your Windows Updates are Unavailable - Please try again later"...I did, about 15 minutes later, and got in.
