Problems opening Compiled HTML help files

Well most programs now usually use Compiled HTML help files. If I click the "help" button in a program I get no reaction. If I go to the installed folder and manually click the help file it says:
"Cannot open the file: mk@MSITStore:C:location\of\file\here.chm."

I don't under why this happens and it happens with all the Compiled HTML help files. I wish I could view them as it would help me a lot. Thanks in advance.

I use windows XP and I can't repair my xp because xp was preinstalled and I never got a cd.

Could you check in your registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.chm what it says in the right pane.

Hi balbanebeoulve,

First make a manual System Restore Point (http://www.bcentral.co.uk/technology/Windows/tips/P20970.asp?MSID=bd8eba5ed9ca43feb70592861af5e525), just in case.

Open notepad, copy & paste the part in bold into it and save it as chmasso.reg
Doubleclick the regfile you just made and confirm it should be merged with the registry.
It may take a reboot to take effect.

Thanks for the help. It seems that the regestry entry hasn't made any affect. Is there anyway to check if it did what it was supposed to just to see if I didn't cause any error? Also I have attached an image so you can see exactly what the error is. This is after trying to open the help file for NOD32 but it also happens to any other one. And on a sidenote I'm not sure if it is related or not the "Help and Support" button in the startmenu also doesn't react.

THANK YOU A LOT! I've been to that page before but I read it again and decided to try something out. I moved the ocx file that was needed which I had in system32 into the folder system and when it said "regsvr c:\windows\system\hhctrl.ocx" I used "regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system\hhctrl.ocx" to make it work. Finally I can look at the help files ;D. Thanks again.
