F-Secure Anti-Virus for Windows XP
Currently there isn't a F-Secure officially supported release of F-Secure Anti-Virus for Windows XP. F-Secure generally does not release a recommended version until 60 days after the release of a new operating system. However, this doesn't mean that the current version won't work with XP. It just isn't supported by F-Secure.
Below is a statement from F-Secure on FSAV and Windows XP:
The current version of F-Secure Anti-Virus, 5.30, has not been developed for the Windows XP platform and is for that reason not officially supported on the new operating system. F-Secure has however performed a set of tests to find out how well F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.30 works on the new platform. Here's is a short summary of the findings:
It is possible to install F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.30 on the Windows XP Professional Edition with some important limitations.
Several new features introduced in Windows XP, such as fast user switching, are not compatible with F-Secure Anti-Virus and should not be used.
F-Secure Anti-Virus is able to detect viruses when running under Windows XP and standalone installations may work fairly well, assuming that XP's new features aren't used.
Several limitations apply if the remote management features in F-Secure Anti-Virus are used.
When considering these limitations, F-Secure does not recommend use of F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.30 in Windows XP production environments.
F-Secure notes that F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.30 has not been developed for Windows XP and this platform is not officially supported for version 5.30.
F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.40 will officially support Windows XP, both Home and Professional Edition. The estimated release date is in Q1-2002. "
