Hello onethingshort,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/).
Please be aware that the most probable reason for the problem you encounter is that your laptops have different hardware configuration.
We recommend you to do the following in order to accomplish your goal:
- Prepare your Windows for transferring using Microsoft System Preparation Tool (sysprep) as it is described in this FAQ article (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/faq.html/#30);
- Boot the computer from Acronis True Image Bootable Rescue CD and either create an image of the prepared Windows and then restore this image to the desired location or use Clone Disk wizard to transfer the entire contents of your old hard drive to the new disk;
- Install the corresponding drivers for the new hardware on Windows first boot;
- If cloned\restored operating system does not boot then perform Windows Repair Installation as it is described in Acronis Help Post (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=55317).
Please be aware that we do not guarantee the successful transferring of the operating system to a computer with the hardware configuration that differs from that of the original machine.
Please also note that we recommend you to unplug one of the hard drives prior to booting into Windows for the first time, since keeping both original and cloned hard drives (in fact identical hard drives) connected might cause different boot or drive letter assignment problems.
You can find more information on how to use Acronis True Image 9.0 in the respective User's Guide (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/docs/).
You may also find Acronis True Image 9.0 FAQ page (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/faq.html) helpful.
If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/) or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.
Thank you.
