Ok, I’ve got a dumb question. I won a free license for LooknStop in the Wilders 5000 person contest. The email I received from LooknStop said:
"… Wilders.org just informed us you won a free license of Look 'n' Stop, the personal firewall software.
To get your serial number, you need to install the software and send us the Look 'n' Stop code which is displayed in the registration page of the running application…"
How are they going to know it’s me and not someone just trying out the firewall for the free 30 day trial? Thank you.
(But first I’ve got to figure out how to get this #@$%!&* Norton Internet Security off my machine… it just doesn’t want to come off!)

-{ Quote: "How to uninstall Norton Internet Security or Personal Firewall using the Rnis.exe removal utility
Situation:
When you uninstalled Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) through Windows Programs list or Add/Remove Programs, the process failed. You want to use the Symantec Rnis.exe removal tool to uninstall NIS or NPF.
Solution:
This document provides the latest version of the Rnis.exe file and the instructions for using it. This document applies to all versions of Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall.
Rnis.exe is a utility that removes the program files and registry entries installed by Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal Firewall (NPF). Use this utility only if you cannot uninstall through Windows Add/Remove Programs or the Uninstall option from the Start Menu.
To use the Rnis.exe removal utility, download the attached Rnis.exe file to your computer, find the file in Windows Explorer, and then double-click the file name to run the file.
To obtain and use the Rnis.exe utility:
1. Log on to the computer. If you have Windows NT, 2000, or XP, use the Administrator account or a user account that is member of the Administrator's security group.
2. If you have Norton AntiVirus (NAV) 2003 and Norton Internet Security, uninstall NAV from Add/Remove Programs.
If the NAV uninstall fails:
a. Use the RNav2003.exe utility to remove NAV. To obtain and use the Rnav2003 utility, see the document How to uninstall Norton AntiVirus using the Rnav2003.exe removal utility (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606).
b. Restart the computer.
If you have NPF rather than NIS, it is not necessary to uninstall NAV before proceeding with step 2.
3. Download Rnis.exe:
a. Right-click RNIS.EXE:
b. Click Save Target As...
c. In the Save As screen, navigate to a folder on your hard drive where you can save the file. For example, you can save the file to your Desktop folder.
d. Click Save.
4. Run Rnis.exe:
a. Open Windows Explorer and find the Rnis.exe file.
b. Double-click Rnis.exe to run the file. This file removes NIS or NPF from your computer.
c. Restart the computer when prompted.
5. Reinstall NIS or NPF. For instructions on how to install NIS or NPF, see the document How to install NIS or NPF. (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2002031210580836)" }-

Thanks, PhantOM. I've got version 2.56 which I think was 2001 but I did find that uninstaller on the Symantec website late last night. I've downloaded it but not run it yet. I was tired and I have a feeling that this entire process is going to take a while. Thanks again.

Ok, I responded to their email, and all they said was to install the program; they gave me no serial number or code or anything. My original question remains, how are they going to tell the difference between us free licensers and those trialing for 30 days? (Maybe I should just go ahead and install and see what happens). Weekend coming up, hopefully I'll FINALLY get time to play with it.

They can’t give you License Informatics until after you Install the program and retrieve your Code Number # found in the “Register” screen and e-mail it to them…

But after 30 days when I register won't they want their money?

Hmm you don't need to wait for the Application to Expire, you can register at will...

But won't they still want their money? How will they know it's a free licenser who is registering? Maybe I should just shut up, do it, and see what happens. If I run into problems and they want to cancel my trial after 30 days I can always come here for help. Thanks.

Acadia, I also won a license for LnS. Registration works exactly as they say. Install, copy the code for your installation, e-mail it to LnS support using the reply function to their original e-mail, and they will send you the registration number, which you then paste into the serial number placeholder and click validate. They know who won their licenses by e-mail address.-{ Quote: "Maybe I should just shut up, do it, and see what happens. " }- That worked for me. 8)
