I have a full image backup to an external hard drive using TI9 but would like to create just an operating system backup to a Secure Zone on my notebook.

Part of the reason is file size I'd need SZ to be. My full backup is about 40 gigs and my free space before SZ is only 32 gigs.

I'd like be able to restore at least WindowsXP on the road and hope my data isn't toast too.

Can this be done or is there a better way?

Thanks,
Lary

Because of how TI handles the MBR, if you want a backup of only the OS, the time to do that is when there is a fresh install of the OS. But if your only reason for wanting to do this is in case of the need to reinstall XP on the road, then just carry a spare copy of the WinXP CD installation disks, which would allow you to do a "Repair" install as a first line of defense. In any case unless you are going mountain climbing with the laptop in your backpack, or cycling off road, your XP should be fine.

Is your notebook that flakey? From what I've seen notebooks usually won't even boot, the screen doesn't work, or the HD dies. If you have your image in a SZ then it isn't going to help with a dead HD and won't likely be any benefit for the other problems either.
