Hi FluxGFX,
Never tried it myself, but I've read some positive comments on it: http://www.guidescope.com/home/
If you decide to try it, let me know whether you like it.

Pieter

Been using Guidescope for a month now!
Very cool! Works very well! Been around for about 18 months. Not alot on the web or even in the forums about it. It obviated the need for 2 other browser tools and does make 'surfin' faster.

Just use trial version of Adshield 3.0 (link above). The way I read the trial version is it is free to use but comes with no support (which you should not need anyway) and no predefined blockfile (big deal add to your own blockfile over time)
When you get some dough if you like upgrade to 3.0 paid version if not stick with the trial version offer or find a copy of version 1.2
Been using Adshield for over a year and am very pleased.
Yet to see a popup Ad or any Ad for that matter that it could not handle.
Adshield Only for IE above 5.01 and Windows OS

Hi peakaboo,
I remember reading that the downside of the trial was the limited size of the Blocklist.
Couldn't find it specified on that page anywhere though.

Pieter

Hi Pieter,
You're right the trial is limited to ten ads or webbugs

Pieter & Claire,
Thanks for the update.
In that case I would still try and hunt down Adshield version 1.2
for web bugs, I use proxomitron:
discussion and good web bug swatter filter for proxo (compliments of JakBeNymble) here:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=6909;start=15
steep learning curve on proxomitron but well worth the effort.

The only bad part of using AdShield 1.2 is that it don't work with Mozilla. And blocking ads with Proxo is a slight learning curve. I still can figure out how to block Ads with proxo while I use mozilla. I just wish I could find a browser that will let you right click and block unwanted gifs and ads. :) But I vote for Proxo and AdShield 1.2 if you're using Internet Explorer.

U need to try Guidescope(works with Moz.!). Does ALL that is in this thread, and there IS no learning curve ;D Takes care of ads, banners, popups, all bugs, cookies. Just don't opt in for any of the promos and u r good 2 go!! And its got a 'tight' privacy policy!

Libbo, I'll take a look at Guidescope. Does it work with WinXP?

Sure it works with XP, and any other system with reasonably updated browsers ;)

Thanks Libbo. Do you know how much resource it takes up compared to Proxomitron and Web Washer?

Guidescope does not block pop-up ads. They recommend using Mozilla and its pop-up blocker. It blocks cookies. It is not a cookie manager. Please read the FAQ and their Privacy statement.
If this doesn't have enough bell&whistles for you ,you might try Naviscope.

I appears to use very little . . . about 1800K. WW used alot. Don't no bout Prox. Since GS is a proxy, the 'heavy lifting' is on them!

With Mozilla & Mozilla Firebird you can use AdBlock (http://adblock.mozdev.org/) so you could right click & block ads or you could block ads through you userContent.css. Unfortunately they just hide the ads, they don't prevent them from downloading.
You could also use a Hosts file with eDexter (http://www.pyrenean.com/edexter.php). eDexter is a very small program that's light on resources & only takes up 260KB of space on your hard drive.

In the month I have used Guidescope, only one popup has gotten through. I guess it is because it blocks third parties from 'tagging along' with the site one is browsing. Because of this it allows popups that are related to the site you went to! (that make sense? ) A popup blocker blocks em all. Plus I like the total cookie control :P

Thanks Amerk_5, I found and started using AdBlock for Mozilla. It' works great. But as you said AdBlock just blocks the ad from being seen. I want something to stop ads and unwanted gifs from downloaning.

A Hosts file will stop them from being downloaded but you can't be specific. That's why I use a Hosts file to block all the big ad servers like doubleclick & all the other minor ads with a stylesheet (userContent.css).

This is all good, but remember people try to focus on Opera and not Internet Explorer........ alot of users are switching to Opera and from the looks of it, it might become the futur browser. Alot more flexible ;)

A hosts file will work with any browser, as far as I know & Opera users have a file called filter.ini to block ads.

I think I'll give Opera a try, and use the filter.ini to start.
Also just downloaded privoxy since proxomitron only works with IE 5.01 and above. I may not even need Privoxy depending on features and security of Opera.
IE5.5 has reached extended service or whatever MS calls it when they begin to phase out providing patches and support. 12/03 is the drop date.
If I like Opera, I"ll keep and just dump Netscrap (Netscape 4.7) which I only use occasionally.
I hope the email feature in Opera is good.

Well my first post using Opera.
Can't figure out yet how to signon to Wilders yet with my regular id & pass.
I must have one of my settings wrong.
So far I like Opera. Takes some getting used to though.
Got my filter.ini up and runnig, and only getting solid Banner to Buy Opera (keeping my fingers crossed on blocking other ads).
Noticed also unless I can tweak settings that this browser is defeated by the force Iframes exploit @ malware.com. When I tested it, I got 1 window which allowed me to cancel download, but it froze big time. No multiple windows but had to shut down pc to clear >:(
definite dump on Netscape, but will keep IE around a bit longer.

User error on my part logging in.
Initially I was trying to short cut my password entry instead of typing in (so much for that).
With Opera & logging in it's as simple as using wand and cntrl+enter to login.
Wonder if there is any exploit possible to burrow thru the Opera browser & steal wand managed passwords. Time will tell. Oh well for now hold the wand for me till I build some time with this neat little browser. :D

I disabled inline frames under page style and Opera defeated the malware test. 8)
