Is it even worth doing compressed backups with software like true image or ghost when there is a great chance that the image may not work, might as well just make a mirror copy instead what do you guys think. I guess a good benefit is that you can go back to a older copy if have incremental backups.

By “mirror” copy, I’m going to assume you mean “clone”.
Compression is just to save space. The cost being more time consuming backups. I’ve never cloned but have restored both partitions and entire system drives from images without any problems. If archiving data is one of your goals, then using Incs can be a good plan. If you have the backup space, you can just schedule a string of Full backups using whatever compression level fits your scheme. I use High since the images are created in the wee hours of the morning and how long it takes is not an issue.
