Hi there, i'm new here. I searched the forums but couldn't find the help i required.

My problem.

I have an 100gb External HD (it takes uo two usb slots via it's cable). I purchased a USB hub to help give it juice. It's one of those little 'fit in yer pocket' portable hd's with aluminium casing etc. When connecting to the pc directly it keeps disconnecting very often (due to not getting enuff juice, therefore a friend suggested i purchase a usb hub (that gets juice from the wall) and for awhile that seemed to make it more stable. But of late the HD has been flakey again and keeps disconnecting (like every half hour or so). Anyone had this problem? Where does the problem lie? USB cable?
I ran disk checking and the hd came back fine (it took 3 attempts for it to get through the checking without disconnecting).

my pc's a high end dell laptop. Also most usb ports are doing something or other, mouse webcam etc.

ok gotta go to work, will check back in later

thanks

id try a different cable and also make sure the cable fits snuggly into the usb ports. if possible, also try using teh hard drive on another computer.
