I have installed RH9 linus several times, but never configured dual boot.
I got XP to where the director askes if I want to boot xp or a floppy. I allocated 20gb of space keeping 35 for xp (thinkpad with 60gb disk)
I read this faq: Acronis OS Selector does not substitute the Linux loader, so you should install the Linux loader (usually GRUB or Lilo) to the boot sector of the partition you plan to install Linux itself
When intalling RH9 it wanted to put GRUB on HDA. that didnt look right, i expected it to ask if GRUB should go on hda4 since that seems to be where things start according to RH9 disk partitioning wizard. I chose not to install grub since i didnt want to wipe out the first sector of the main drive, my mbr
Was that correct?
============solved=========
Had to check advanced boot option and then the choice to install grub on first sector of new partition shows up.
During all this installation I lost my volume serial number. That is a strike against you for re-activating XP Pro. I had written it down and was able to restore it. Disk Directory should have had an option to preserve the VSN to avoid reactivating XP. Got all working though, both XP and RH9
