Up until a few daze ago, I used only the built-in windows defragger.
Never had NAV pop up any messages whilst defragging.
Recently, I installed McAfee VS !0.
Yesterday, I installed the trial version of OO DEfrag.
During a defrag, I was suprised that the AV software decided to warn me about a file (PUP warning)
I had to disable the AV software to avoid other messages.
Is it really necessary to disable aV software during a defrag?

I use OO Defrag Pro together with McAfee VSE 8.0i, 8.5i beta and F-Secure AV client, and no problems at all.

I have never had a problem doing a defrag with antiviruses running. NOD32 and contig.exe with Power Defragmenter GUI have worked smooth as anything. Maybe you should try the built in windows defragmenter and see if McAffee flags it? Try also a manual scan of the .exe file for the defragmenter.
Good luck,

I am using McAfee VS 10.
When I tested Perfect Disk, I had disabled McAfee.
O&O Defrag was installed when the message occurred.
Alas, stupidly, I did not make note of which file was tagged by McAfee. Not sure that VS 10 has an available log of such things.
Yesterday, I tried to reproduce the problem by placing a diretory containing a known virus on a drive, and then defragging. McAfee did not flag the files during the defrag.
So, either the type of file (PUP warning) was relevant or some other mysterious event activated the McAfee software. Guess I'll never know.

Norton SystemWorks, with AntiVirus and Firewall removed and replaced by ZoneAlarm and AntiVir Classic 7.
When I had AntiVir Classic 6 and would use Nortons 'Speed-Disc' De-Frag or Analyze feature,
AV6 would scan every file that 'Speed-Disc' looked at.
Analyze usually takes about 30 seconds, with AV6 working in there, it would be 90 minutes.???
Turning AV6 off was a simple answer for that.
Since UpGrading* to AntiVir Version 7, it has had no effect on Norton's SpeedDisc DeFrag or Analyze.:thumb:
(* I should say, "remove 6, install 7" :) ).

Never had a problem with any antivirus proggies I used with defrag, or even 3rd party ones like DiskKeeper.
Matter of fact, consider it a manual scan of your disk...as it's defragging, real time protection could pick up baddies.
For optimal defrag though, best done in safe mode.

In the past BitDefender used to cause problems with defragmentation software, however version 9 fixed this problem. For the rest I'm not aware of other AV's wich interfer with defragmentation software.
