Any idea which one would be the best to make a complete
backup of my Hard Drive.
And what would be the advantages (or diadvantages) from
one compare to the other one???
Thanks

In my opinion, you can flip a coin. I use Ghost 03 to make backups of my drive, and it's simple enough even I can do it. ;D
If you're only using the software for backups, I'd recommend it, because it has a lot of neat extras as well.
PQDI is just as good, although I've only used it once. It also does a fine job, though. Depends on personal preference, mostly.

Thanks JimIT. I will try to gather more information
before taking a final decision. :)

We use Ghost 2003 for direct imaging on DVD. Don't know why I should try anything else.

Acronis True Image !!!!!
IMHO by far the most user friendly of them ALL !!!
OK, it doesn't come with a command-line option nor a scheduler, and only with a separate Image-Checker. But most probably these things will be added in a new version later this year.
AND: Symantec and PowerQuest both cannot even dream of the support that Acronis gives you.
Have a look around at the DSLR-Software-forum, and you will find many people who switched to TrueImage.
Have a look at their site:

norton ghost 2003 suck no usb 1.0 suport no usb 1.1 suport
basicly you need top of the line 2003 pc to use norton ghost 2003 with out going threw hell
it seem easy enough the way they describe how easy it was to use
but its not newbie frindly
you cant even adjust the speed in which you record
this makes it nasty if your cd burner can only burn at 16 speed even if it supose to be 48 speed cause the cd-r suck
the fact i have to turn off go back in order to make a back up also sucks
the list is endless why norton ghost 2003 sucks

I agree with you Blaze !
Anyone who is looking for a newbie friendly Backup-Imaging-Program, should take a look at True Image.

Agree with FanJ
Acronis True Image 6 is very good, particularly for newbies. I found it much easier to use than Norton Ghost or DriveImage.
However, I have not used the new versions of the latter 2 programs so I cannot judge whether they have caught up with TI.
However, Acronis still have their special offer to Ghost owners; change over to TI for only $9.99. A bargain and one of my best software purchases.

Many thanks FanJ and all the others for your comments.
I went through the links you provided on True Image and it looks really impressive.
I think I will go for that product.
Thanks again

FanJ,
I just saw this morning your other thread about True Image.

Very interesting. Great job, I think you convince me.
Thanks. :)

Antarctica,
don't know if you already know this, but in order for Powerquest DriveImage 7 to work, you must have the Microsoft .NET framework installed. That's a whopping 40MB installation, and I know that many people think twice about installing something for something else. Unless you need the framework for several other programs (current or future), you might want to save yourself the clutter.
True Image keeps it nice and simple, but on the whole, disk imaging is truly something I'm grateful for, so whatever you pick, you've made a wise decision.

I haven't used True Image, so I can't comment on it, but I've heard raves about it.
Regarding Ghost 2003: Maybe I'm fortunate, but I haven't had problems with it. I cloned my w2k drive with it without a hiccup, and use prior versions on regular basis at work. Works great for me.
I also use PQDI on a regular basis at work, and it works well, but the "learning curve" IMO isn't any more or less difficult than Ghost, so that's why I mentioned "flip a coin".

I finally decided to go for Acronis True Image.
I am most impressed. Easy to install and it is very user
friendly. I already made a backup of my hard drive without
any problem.
Thanks to every one who help me

Hi Antarctica,
I'm really glad you like it and -of course: that's what it's all about !!!- that you were able to make that backup-image :)
Cheers, Jan.

Hello Dollefie,
Yesterday I made a upgrade of my system and I had a chance to test the restore function of Acronis.
Less than one hour later my P.C. was back to work like if nothing had happend. All my programs, Win XP, IE everything is functionning
perfectly. :) :)

Is correct, but there are of course pro's and con's between the programs:
1. Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost and Powerquest Drive Image are all three good products.
2. True Image and Drive Image are more user-friendly then Norton Ghost.
3. Drive Image and Norton Ghost have more options then True Image.
4. True Image is cheaper then Norton Ghost and Drive Image.
Not easy to make a choice.... ::)

If you image a drive, do you have to reimage the entire drive or can it be limited to just the programs on the drive? I am just thinking of all the CD's it would take for a large capacity drive.
Thank you

I only can speak for Ghost: you can choose between a whole drive and partitions on a drive.
About large images Ghost uses compression, but it will still be large.
That's why I use DVD to make the image.
For backing up files you'll be better off with a 'standard' backup utility

Bdiamond,
With Acronis True Image you also have the choice of the complete disk, partition or programs of your choice.
You can also choose a degree of compression!
I just backup the complete disk and I uses 5 CD only. :)
