Google throws out US data demand

The rejection was made in court documents Google filed in response to official demands for search data.

In the strongly-worded papers Google said the request would violate the privacy of its users and reveal trade secrets to its rivals.

It also added that handing over the data was impractical and would not accomplish what the government wanted.

Other search engines have complied, or at least partly acceeded to such requests. Google is the only one that doesn't appear to be accepting the Government's request for search data over a specific period.

That is an interesting story, Tex.

It will also be interesting to see how it all plays out,
I can't help but think the stance they are taking with
the other search companies in China, isn't going to help them.

An example of different strokes for different folks.

In the USA where personal liberty and privacy protection is taken very seriously, Google makes the grand gesture and legitimately should feel protected by those great documents, the bill of rights and the constitution.

In other repressive regimes Google knuckles under rather than fight the good fight to extend those similar rights to others. Market share maybe?

Hopefully any access to Google will help shine the light, better than nothing.
