I need advice about the best online free virus scanner as my 2nd line AV.

Esp consider 2 things,

1- Effectiveness

2- Speed matters to me a lot as I am on dial up? Also Some scanner need you to download and run big signature files or active X each time that kills me as i use dial up.

Also they can remove virus free of cost as well.

( Just to clear i am not talking about free downloadable AV like avast, antivir, AVG etc)

To my knowledge the online scanners will not remove nasties, just detect them, and imo KAV's online scanner is the best.

Panda only detects, does not remove, I used it.

I've had great success with BitDefender's Online Scan, it both detects and cleans. :)

Panda DOES clean, but is limitated to viruses/worms/trojans: ie it won't clean spyware.

Panda removes viruses/worms etc. but not spyware.

Here's my list of scanners: http://nod32sse.hotserv.dk/scanners.php

An online scan using dial-up.....hope your quite young!

I've got 2 meg and a kaspersky online scan took ages.

If you only want to scan individual files try Jottis or Virus Total.

You are right. Also Panda gives you option for individual folders but its signature downloads are too big for dial-up.

I tried Kaspersky, took some hours to download signatures, and then 1 hour and 19 minutes to scan my system. But also during that scan heavy activities from Bitdefender, also from Spy Sweeper which process I killed.

I don't know why, and I didn't pay any attention because soon after I left home for some shopping. When I was back at home I noticed it was still downing sigs. And ehhh..... I needed IE for that ???

Anyway, it's a non issue for me.

I've always found BD to be an excellent online scanner, not only capable of detecting and deleting viruses, but a large amout of trojans too !

KAV is also very good at detecting both.
