Outlook Express and windows xp problem

hi,

i just bought nod32 antivirus recently and i am using windows xp home edition. After installing i cannot configure my outlook express account to scan the mails through it. whenever i open it , it says your default client microsoft outlook is not configured. i dont use outlook but i use outlook express for mailing.i went to there website to check but i could not figure out how to configure it. i am a newbie and dont know much about computers. i would be really gratefull if someone can help me and tell me how to configure my outlook express to scan incoming and outgoing mails by nod32....

It is looking for Outlook set up for commercial applications. Outlook 2002 can't be set up that way. Double click on you NOD 32 short cut ,click on setup , then unclick[ Use MAPI interface] NOD is scanning your E Mail don't worry.

Just btw, the nice thing about NOD 2's email scanner is that you don't need to configure your email client at all to have your email scanned.

If you want to make sure that it's scanned check to see (in Imon set up) that you have it set so that all incoming mail shows the statement that it's been scanned by NOD. When you see that blurb at the bottom of your incoming email you'll know that IMON has intercepted and scanned your email.

I just installed NOD32 version 2 yesterday, and so far have got it working fine with theBat, which I use for mymain email. I tested it with the eicar.com file, and it caught it right away as incoming, and also as soon as I tried to send the attachment. It also caught it in Mozilla's email client. However, my hotmail account that I use OUtlook Express for downloaded the entire eicar file without any warning at all, and it's still sitting on my computer now, with no warning. Is there something I have to set up in NOD32 or in Outlook?

Hi Catharine!

The Outlook Express I have isn't in English, but, I think ;) I can translate it :

Once in Outlook Express:

1. Tools
2. Options
3. Security
4. From "security", checkmark the second option
(next to the globe)
which is : restricted site zones

That setting won't permit anything to pass through.
At least, it works for me.

I can't advice for Nod 32,
for I don't have it.

Hi Catherine,

With regard to NOD and Outlook Express, the EMON component of NOD will not protect Outlook Express. You will need to use the IMON component of NOD for this. By default, IMON will monitor the standard POP3 port (TCP 110) and it is presumeably this that protected your test through the Bat but if your hotmail access through Outlook Express is on a different port you will need to decide whether you want IMON to scan the other port instead (thus leaving the Bat email vulnerable)

In Outlook Express go to 'Tools>Accounts'. Click on the 'Mail' tab, then click on the 'Properties' button to the right. Then click on the 'Advanced' tab.
I'm including an attachment of what the 'Advanced' tab will look like. In the area labelled 'Incoming mail (POP3)' the port your Outlook Express is using for incoming mail will be shown. Typically Port 110, as seen in the attachment.
