Hi TequillaSheilla,

Welcome to Wilders!!!

Please close out of all other programs/windows and select and fix the following;

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://mysearchnow.com/searchbar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://mysearchnow.com/searchbar.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://mysearchnow.com/searchbar.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

The following I could not identify but that in itself leaves me very suspicious. I would remove them unless you are sure that they are safe;

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {42e3fd73-634d-42c3-968f-87bf16cbbdf6} - C:\DOCUME~1\VALUED~1\APPLIC~1\lcheeylystbl.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [plystch] C:\DOCUME~1\VALUED~1\APPLIC~1\stkxietp.exe -QuieT

Once you are done, reboot and delete the following;

C:\WINDOWS\wsem214.dll
C:\WINDOWS\nem211.dll
C:\Program Files\Window Active (the entire folder)

and if you opted to remove the suspect ones, search for and delete those.

After deleting, please rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log so we can be sure we got everything.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi tequilasheila,

Have HijackThis fix the ones Dan wasn't sure about as well. They are due to a lop.com infection.
As a consequence, also delete:
C:\DOCUME~1\VALUED~1\APPLIC~1\stkxietp.exe

About the winactive startup entry: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=11852;start=0#msg76518

Hi Sheila,

It looks good except it appears you missed checking one item on the previous run, you can tell it is not a reinfection as the file for the entry was missing before and it is still missing. So just close all other programs/windows and select and fix this one entry

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

and reboot and yo8u should be as good as new :)

Regards,

Dan

No, this is because the Class ID has been edited/hacked. Note the underscore preceding the CLSID itself.
Hijack This can't handle this.

Here's how to get that fixed:

Copy the bold into Notepad, save as Search.reg (save as 'all files') and doubleclick that file. Click Yes when prompted to add its contents to the Registry.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Thanks again,

Hi Sheila,

Your log looks fine. Good job. :)

The following text was copied from a post that TonyKlein made at another board (which is down at the moment, so it was no use giving you the link).

-{ Quote: "A frequently heard question is "how on earth did I get infected with all that spyware in the first place?"

It usually happens because of lax security settings.

Here are a number of recommendations that will help tighten them, and which will contribute to making you a less likely victim:

1) Watch what you download!
Many freeware programs, and P2P programs like Grokster, Imesh, Kazaa and others are amongst the most notorious, come with an enormous amount of bundled spyware that will eat system resources, slow down your system, clash with other installed software, or just plain crash your browser or even Windows itself.

2) Go to IE > Tools > Windows Update > Product Updates, and install ALL Security Updates listed.
It's important to always keep current with the latest security fixes from Microsoft.
Install those patches for Internet Explorer, and make sure your installation of Java VM is up-to-date. There are some well known security bugs with Microsoft Java VM which are exploited regularly by browser hijackers.

3) Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.

Now press "Custom Level."

In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

Now you will be asked whether you want ActiveX objects to be executed and whether you want software to be installed.
Sites that you know for sure are above suspicion can be moved to the Trusted Zone in Internet Option/security.

So why is activex so dangerous that you have to increase the security for it?
When your browser runs an activex control, it is running an executable program. It's no different from doubleclicking an exe file on your hard drive.
Would you run just any random file downloaded off a web site without knowing what it is and what it does?

And some more advice:

4) Install Javacool's SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)

It will protect you from all spy/foistware in it's database by blocking installation of their ActiveX objects.

Download and install, download the latest updates, and you'll see a list of all spyware programs covered by the program (NOTE: this is NOT spyware found on your computer)
Press "select all", then "kill all checked", and you're done.
The spyware that you told Spywareblaster to set the "kill bit" for won't be a hazard to you any longer.
Although it won't protect you from every form of spyware known to man, it is a very potent extra layer of protection.
Don't forget to check for updates every week or so.

There's a board at Wilderssecurity (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php?board=34) as well.

Let's also not forget that SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://spybot.eon.net.au/) has the Immunize feature which works roughly the same way.

It can't hurt to use both.

5) Another brilliant program by Javacool I recommend is SpywareGuard (http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html).
It provides a degree of real-time protection against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.

An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware! And you can easily have an anti-virus program running alongside SpywareGuard.
It now also features Download Protection and Browser Hijacking Protection!

Finally, after following up on all these recommendations, why not run Jason Levine's Browser Security Tests (http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/BrowserSecurity/).
They will provide you with an insight on how vulnerable you might still be to a number of common exploits.

And another site with an enormous amount of information on computer security, and which is well worth a visit is http://www.wilders.org/

Sorry to post this here, but makeing a new thread for my question is a bit to much I think, so I put it in this one. I hope that's ok.

What does BHO and DPF means in the hijacklog?

thx

A BHO is a Browser Helper Object, or, in other words, a Browser plugin.
A DPF is an ActiveX control, found in your Downloaded Program Files folder.

Here's some reading:
