Hello all,

Just curious about jv16. I'm aware that the site has changed and they have gone mainstream (sordaspeak), but they used to have a forum that was informative as well. Does any-one know if the forums are still active or if they have been scrubbed altogether?... :o
I couldn't seem to find any link on the new website.
I also e-mailed them and have had no respose as of yet. (4 days ago)

Appreciate that response. I,ll be sure to give RegSeeker a whirl tonight.
I still have a copy of the test sheet that was done on the old jv16 site comparing different registry cleaners and RegSeeker 1.04 beta ranked right up there with the best of em at the time. I see now that its version 1.10. ;)
Those two links look pretty good for other things as well. Should keep me busy for a while. Just gotta remember not to get to carried away with cleaning the registry, I,ve had my fair share of "what the ............" where's my desktop.

I was reading Lavasoft support today and someone asked about a good free reg. cleaner. Ive researched many reg. cleaners. (jv16 included), but i need a free one for me. Ive never cleaned my registry and i need one that is for a newbie. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

reg cleaners are dangeriouse i dont recomend it for newbys

but i belive same guy that made jv 18 made one just call reg cleaner isnt that one still free?

Just ensure the box make backups before deletion is checked so that if there was any problem, you could reconstruct using the backup

Ok, Noticed that some items are in red, some are in green.
Couldn't find the help file on which is safe to scrub.
Going by jv16 all items marked green were safe to delete.
Could a person assume the same in this program?

I recall when I scrubbed some of the files marked red in jv16, the WMP
failed to recognize any media stored on the hard drive. I then recieved a
verbal lashing from my daugher who relishes her tunes.

red is bad green is good but still registry cleaners are unsafe for newbies

i dont recomend useing one untill you been at this bord reading stuff foe at least 6 months so you get the jest whats ok to delet and what isnt

jv 16 powertools messed up my pc when i decided to wipe clean over 1000 green registrys that were marked green for ok

I would not recommend regseeker had i not tried it myself first including deleting all entries found by it to see results.

Having said that, i admit i have taken precautions that most don't :

1. I operate a dual boot system ( win98SE & win2k) in order that should one OS fail, i can rely on the other one.
2. I have 2 Hard drives.
3. Each OS is on a separate drive and a Back of them made on the alternate drive using DRIVE IMAGE before altering the registry.

WITHOUT A PROPER BACK UP OF YOUR OS, DON'T PLAY WITH YOUR REGISTRY OR DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK

Hey MickeyTheMan,

I once worked in a machine shop as a younger lad and was very
interested in all the controls, buttons, gadgets, spindels and basically
all moving parts on the lathe.
I persisted with questions to the lead hand, which he answered
with a little distrust and caution.
I saw the owner of the place walk by and stopped him for questioning
as well. I said, hey whats this lever suppose to do?
He calmly replyed, son there's only one kinda lever you should know
about right now. Thats leave her alone! :-[ Good lesson.

We can almost take heed from this as far as messin with something thats not clear in our minds.

I will continue to use RegSeeker with caution and absorb the advice
in your last post. Good to see you have a back-up for a back-up for another back-up. ;D
