Every once and a while my username and password for NOD32 seems to get erased some how and I have to reenter them to update. Could someone please tell me how this could happen (eg. data kept in temp folder, registry key, ect.) I have Ccleaner and thing that migh be the culprit but I have never had a problem with it before.

The username and password is kept in the registry so if you run a registry cleaner it might wipe out this information.

I have added NOD's setting registry keys to my exclusion list on my cleaner. I have manipulated the permissions per Stephen Elek's instructions but I am still having the same peoblem. I don't believe it to be the registry cleam because I've never had that problem before and have used the same cleaner for a while. I have however recently installed the newest version of ccleaner. Could that possibly be it?

This is really starting to bother me, so I set up a registry audit for:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Eset\Nod\CurrentVersion\Modules\Update\Settings\Config000\Settings
I went to update and got the same error I have been getting; lost username and password. The audit revealed nothing out of the ordinary I am wondering if my problem might be something else that I haven't thought of. I live in an ASU dorm and have to sign in through their verification system in order to gain access to the internet. I have to do this pretty much daily. Is it possible that my information gets erased because NOD keeps trying to update but can't. I have it set to update every hour and if I'm logged off the system then NOD will see I have no access to the internet.
Any ideas (Eset)?

Are you placing your Username and Password in the Nod32 Control Centre> Update> update> Setup or are you placing it in a popup window that asks for your UN and PW?

Initially I put that information in the control center. Then after it gets erased and I am prompted I put it in the popup. That info is gone from the registry also.

-{ Quote: "...I put it in the popup." }-This is a waist of time, the popup does not retain the UN and PW, can you please try again in the update>setup area and make sure you copy and paste the UN and PW without any spaces before or after each.

I don't recommend to copy and paste but rather write the UN & PW. I had this issue when setting up the dial-up where I copied and pasted the UN & PW and they disappeared later on. But once I wrote them, they were retained.

Wow. I'm not an idiot. And I don't think my problem is WASTE of time. I have entered this information three different ways, popup, control center, as I said before, and via the registry. Each time it is some how erased. I have the alteration audits to prove it; unfortunately they don't lead to the culprit. Obviously there seems to be a bug in the software.

Fully agree but if some1 is experiencing problems with copy and paste the typing might be a clue. BTW, I have read somewhere that some apps are having protection against pasted PW to combat keygens etc.

-{ Quote: "Wow. I'm not an idiot. -{ Quote: "Fully agree but if some1 is experiencing problems with copy and paste the typing might be a clue." }-Sure, but we usually experience the reverse where a customer continually tries to manually type in the password and tells me black and blue that they have entered it correctly, only to copy and paste the UN and PW in as we recommend and find it work 1st time. Just our experience.
-{ Quote: "BTW, I have read somewhere that some apps are having protection against pasted PW to combat keygens etc." }-I hope Eset never go down this route, or it will become a nightmare for support in trying to have customers place in their PW.

Could you please try the following:
Please download a FRESH copy of Nod32 from www.nod32.com
Uninstall your current version.
REBOOT your Computer.
Remove the Eset Folder from C Drive> Program Files.
Install the FRESH copy of Nod32 that you downloaded above using “Typical Settings”.
Failing this I would request a new UN and Pw from Eset or the Reseller from whom you purchased.
Let us know how you go…
Cheers ;D

I don't seem to be having that issue anymore. Hopefully I never will again. But I think it would help is ESET used keys, a la Kaspery and VBA32, instead of the username and password combo. Maybe that is an idea someone could share with out NOD mods here.

The advantage to ESET by using the UN/PW combo, is they allow access to the server, and are checked remotely each time you ask for an upate (or so it seems to me), so once it's revoked remotely... no more updates for you !
The license key files (like KAV ones) may be easier to use, but they've a backdraw : they can be copy-pasted and used on many machines without the vendor's knowledge, implying, it's a lot easier to use a cracked / illicit copy of the software, even if sometimes known pirated keyfiles are blacklisted.
So I guess (it's only a guess, though) that Eset prefers to keep the UN/PW to prevent piracy in a possible extent. Plus, as it's only used by the server, it doesn't need a licensing system on the client computer, so less resources consumed.
So I think the UN/PW thing is good, but that's just my opinion anyway...

Another reason - there would be a higher probability that emails with attachments would be removed on mailservers, or stripped out at least.
