View Full Version : MIRRORING impossible with TIB files

I really would like the ability to backup some files IN THE SAME FILE TYPE and folder structure that they are now (i.e., JPGS backed up as JPGS; DOC files backed up as DOC files, etc.) I believe this is called MIRRORING or FILE SYNCHRONIZATION.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see that capability here. Even when compression is turned off, I can only make TIB files.

I find two big problems with this. First, I can't easily check to make sure the backups are safe and uncorrupted without restoring them. Second, I believe TIB is a proprietary format which would not be supported if ATI went out of business.

Ideally, I would like a mirroring process that would continually backup changes on one hard drive to another. Seems so simple. But I don't think ATI has this capability either.

I probably should have researched ATI more before I purchased. I think it might be an excellent bare-metal recovery system, but I need this additional function and may have to buy additional software.

Many thanks!

Acronis True Image does not do synchronization/duplication/mirroring, as it is designed for imaging and file backup.

Acronis has provided this thread: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=85595&page=10 and it sits at the top of each index page, for posting wish list items. If you don't post it there, you may as well have not posted it at all.

If you really care to have some input on file synchronization/duplication/mirroring software, I suggest posting here: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48, where it should receive more attention.

You could also consider a RAID controller and another hard drive identical in manufacturer and model number as you have now.

Ti works well for it's purpose and even if you never upgraded it again or the company dissappeared, it will always work with your present hardware.
As mentioned raid is a good way to go if it as available, but true hardware raid cards are over 300 bucks.
To do what you want, try a prog called Mirrorfolder. It will do exactly what you desire including syncing with more than 1 pc with an external. BTW it works well.

Crofftk and Noonie,

Many thanks for those insights. I did originally post this to the ATI wish list but didn't get a reply so I thought to repost it out here. And I will check out Mirrorfolder. I know a RAID System is expensive and I'm not at that level yet. Just trying to store and backup thousands of important photographs

Thanks again!
