On page 104 of his 'social engineering' book titled "The art of Deception, controlling the human element of security", Mitnick talks about Trojans and how to protect yourself from them.

He recommends TDS (which he calls Trojan Defense Sweep not Trojan Defence Suite) from www.diamondcs.com.au

Also recommended was 'The Cleaner' from moosoft.

I wonder how much that cost eh Wayne? j/k

Thought it was a known fact that many from the blackhat world have TDS to protect themselves for their own kind?
If you want to know it all, use this link

Just thought it was interesting because Mitnick is the most notorious hacker to ever live, not your average script kiddie.

..not so much for protection, as well as to verify detection from new naughties developped, to find a way to circurmvent detection, and find ways to disable TDS while the (replaced?) icon staying up IMO...

Kevin was a regular guest on Tech TV. I don't know if he still is since I have not have much time to watch it lately. They usualy have some good guests on firewall security ect. The last guy mentioned the best way to go is with a home hgardware firewall and not meaning the usual Linksys wideband routers comming with DSL and cable intenet access nowdays. He mentioned Nokia as one company selling them.
He pretty much claimed that no Security will stop a real hacker. Not a software firewall or a hardwear firewall.

You can view some of their airing online at their site.

It's quite a world yeah.
Of course they try every kind of software to take it down. TDS has some special parts included which will not allow the icon to stay up while TDS itself would be closed and of course it is not that easy to close it, but like any software not impossible.
But because of the strength of TDS for defence, many use it for that too.
Kevin should be hired to secure systems and is not a person to be kept from computers. The world can learn from him.

They can read his book if they want. He was more about social engineering than pure computer hacking. Why waste your time trying to defeat a heavily defended database server when some idiot who works there will give you an account on it if you know how to ask him.

Hm, not bad, saves lots of time and trouble. :)
