Hi,
Please try the following:
1.) Uninstall SpywareBlaster (using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel).
2.) Download and install the Visual Basic 6.0 SP6 run-times from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7B9BA261-7A9C-43E7-9117-F673077FFB3C&displaylang=en
3.) Download the setup file again from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html
4.) Re-install SpywareBlaster 3.5.1.
5.) Open SpywareBlaster and click on the "Updates" tab.
6.) Then click on the "Options" tab towards the top of the window.
7.) Ensure that "Use a direct connection to the Internet" is selected.
8.) Click on the "Updates" tab again.
9.) Try updating.
Please let me know if the above works.
EDIT: Also, are you using an English-language version of Windows XP? Or a non-English language version? And do you have Service Pack 2 installed for Windows XP?
Best regards,

I have the same problem described here. I uninstalled, downloaded and ran the Microsoft file, reinstalled 3.5.1 and tried to upgrade again. Same error. Any more thoughts?

What version of Windows are you running?

After reading a bunch more threads here I found and fixed my problem. I just needed to set Norton Internet Security firewall to allow spywareblaster access to the internet. Simply check permit all, and done. Thanks for all your help.
