Which is the best dvd creating Software?

Hey guys;
I was wondering which is the best and fast dvd creating software. I use Nero v.7 right now but it takes 5 hours to transcode, which is really long. I am using mpeg2 format files in nero (not avi) but still takes really long (5hrs). I also tried to use winDVD creator, but it also takes really long time....

Is there any other software which is fast and creates really good menus as well?

I`d take a look at Ashampoo`s Burning Studio. It`s fast and does a real nice job.

I wonder how many people think about this, when they start burning CD/DVD's

I stress tested my new DVD writter I got for Xmas (latest Samsung), defraging the drive I was reading off whilst burning, with emule running in the background, using 50% cpu for those tasks alone !
Was a 300mb cd, took about 20 minutes to burn (max speed set at 48x), 180 buffer under run protections made, but the disc works flawlessy.

Any good dvd writter (and burning software) should have/support buffer under run protection and be able to burn perfectly every time.

Hi,
Are you talking about normal burning? Creating ISOs and data disks?
With data disks containing 5,000 files and about 4Gb of info it never takes me more than 10 min.
What do you mean transcode? Create SVCD like disks? Or SVDVD?
Using LG / NEC burners with either CD Burner XP Pro and Nero 5.

For transcoding this is your problem: CPU: AMD ATHLON XP 2100+

I mean if you want fast video encoding then switch to a Dual Core PPC System, such as the PowerMac 2.7 Ghz Dual Core. 8+ GB of RAM for each CPU should be enough for the first start. Final Cut Pro as Software i can recommend for this. It's then done in a few minits including DVD authoring such as menus, chapters etc. Besides, the good fact is that you can play DOOM 3 or Call of Duty during this transcoding without any problems on the same machine ;-)

Absolutely! AnyDVD with CloneDVD is perfect. I also use 1 Click DVD copy. If I run into problems with one of them, the other always seems to work.

Why not buy a 2nd machine which can churn away doing these long tasks in the background, I built my self a server, which was a p3 450 until this xmas when I upgraded it to an athlon 1200, that will transcode a DVD overnight no sweat, plus you can use it for other things like downloading, file storage, and keep your main machine a bit leaner and meaner.

BTW, try different DVD transcoding software, I personally prefer CloneDVD (and anyDVD is great) to Nero 6, slightly easier to use user interface (I hate the pre scan thing Nero Recode does). CloneDVD is reportedly faster (but I have no evidence to show this is the case), but I do much prefer the burn and reading engine of CloneDVD (and CloneCD) to Nero (which annoyingly copied a CD at work with an error on and didnt even know there was an error, which clonecd pickedup).

PS, I have read a LOT of stories about how buggy Nero 7 is, so it might even be worth Trying Nero 6 with Nero Recode.

I use DVD shrink 3.2 and nero 6 and I can make a backup copy of a DVD from start to stop in about 22 minutes. I have tried several apps but nothing works for me like DVD shrink.

My friend Finds DVD Shrink runs faster on his machine than Nero Recode or CloneDVD, yet I find the opposite pattern on my server.

Best thing is to try a few and pick which is best for you (bit like picking ANY software).

This is like antivirus software, you just have to try them out till you find one that works the best for you and your machine;D The best part is there are a lot of apps out ther to try.

ImgBurn can write most types of CD / DVD images and it supports all the latest writers (including booktype / bitsetting on many of the major ones - i.e. BenQ, LiteOn, NEC, Plextor, Sony). You can even use ImgBurn to erase / format your rewritable media!
