I think Kaspersky has had problems with XP since day one. Don't know what happened here, but it's not the first time.

Hi *all
Does avp 3.5 *supports *XP?
In www.avp.ch, it says: This version is not XP certified. As such it may or may not run.
Has anyone here tried avp3.5 on xp?

No it doesn't.
But...Swiss editon of AVP 3.5 will run on XP and Russian will not...
AVP 4.xx is officially XP certified but still has some problems on this OS.

Technodrome, should I abandon AVG and go for AVAST32? * ???

No, at least not yet. Avast (alwil) is promising that upcoming avast 4 will be better and much more improved. So I would recommend to wait for this.
You can read more about avast on:

Question: *Is Avast!home the same as Avast32? *Was Avast!home tested the same as Avast32?
Just wondering.

I see the bulletin finally got rid of that awful site and replaced it with a slicker xml based one.

VirusBulettin publishes really respectful and qualified anti virus tests. But this month the test is nearly useless if someone only looks at the results published on the web site and not in the full magazin review.
There are a lot of questions with this result and I suggest everybody that is seeking for a new av software not refering to this. Example questions are:
Why has F-Secure won the award while F-Prot and KAV did not? (F-Secure uses F-Prot and KAV engine)
Why has Command AV won the award while it is using F-Prot engine?
Why has RAV (GeCAD) won the award while AVK did not? (AVK (GDATA) is using RAV engine besides KAV engine).
I think there is an answer to all these questions but as long these answers are only available to magazin subscribers the test results only is in my opinion useless for decsion making.

Being the open-minded, always-looking-for-the-best-freebie guy that I am, I need to know - is Avast32 as good as this result would lead one to believe?
Does anyone know for sure (as in, have you tried it? been happy with it? had your butt saved by it? and how exactly does one go about getting the 'incremental updates' mentioned [which would be infinitely preferable to getting updates just once a month!] ).
I've d/l'ed it and sent for the key, but haven't installed it yet and won't, until I get some feedback.
Anybody? Pete

Avast32 is quiet good product for freebie. I did test it and it handled job quite good. I didn't have any problems with Avast32. It did job during my testing.
Avast32 updates weekly (daily when needed) and monthly.
Monthly updates are for the whole program(similar to sophos) where you are getting the latest improvements to program, new signs etc.

The last time I tried Avast it produces a lot of false positives. So I would suggest to use it with causion.

This has been one of my pet bitches for years.
11 programs won the June 2002 VB100 award, which means they're all equal in virus detection ... right ?
WRONG !!!
NOD32 made a 100% clean sweep of every virus in every category.
The other 10 VB100 winners all missed viruses in the overall test ... in fact, one winning product had 1306 misses!
Without the actual detection figures the online VB100 results are (as you pointed out) misleading! Very misleading!
Obviously we cannot reasonably expect Virus Bulletin to post the whole magazine online free for all to read ... they have paid subscriptions to think about ... but there's much more to Virus Bulletin than the VB100, and I doubt that anyone subscribes only for the detection figures.
In case anyone thinks I'm bitching about this because my product, NOD32, isn't being displayed as #1 in virus detection, let me point out that I've been bitching about the fact that the online VB100 doesn't include the actual detection figures since the day Nick Fitzgerald created the VB100 back in 1998 ... long before I went into partnership with Eset.
A string of online VB100 wins is a good rule-of-thumb guide to a products history ... but that's all it is. Without the figures, it's not a guide to who's #1 in the game ... and in my opinion, that's a shame. Virus Bulletin deserves its reptation as "The Bible of The Antivirus Industry, but I think VB could provide a much better.service to computer users without risking the loss of subscriptions.

Hi Paul. Long time no chat! :)
Looks like your system doesn't love me ... I can login OK, but I'm instantly forgotten ... the next page I visit kicks me back to "Guest". I can't even read the private message someone (you ?) sent me. Maybe I'm doomed to remain a guest forever. :((
I can't change my password, and I can't remember the uytiuytgkjhft8656nbvmnbv one you gave me. :))
I'll email you screencaps of the problem.

I think your JavaScript and/or cookies might be the problem. I have security coming out my ears.
I'll try putting your site in "Trusted Zones" later ... you're a NOD32 user, so I think I can trust you not to send me a virus. :) :) :)

Hi Jooske.
You have me at a disadvantage ... I don't recognize the nick.
First glance, the nick looks like maybe Joost de R ... but the pic looks like Mary Landesmann. :)
