Anybody tried the new version of Diskeeper? If so, what are your views on it?

Yep, converted this old die hard PD user to it, can do without the doo dads but this one is far improved than any other previous DK operation and is also more efficient than the current PD7.

I also do find that it runs smoother on my system then version 9. 8)
Haven't had time to play a lot with it, but the feature Set It & Forget It is very useful.
I always let it do it's job during the weekend.
Unfortunately the trial expired, so now I'm waiting for the download link to the full version. :)

Edit: Just received the download link by email.
Going to install the new registered version pretty soon. :D

It has to be said there are 3 versions of this product - Home, Professional and Professional Premier. The last two include free space consolidation and the new I-FAAST technology, both of which aren't available in the Home version.

I used Diskeeper too and liked the "Set it and Forget it" feature.
Unfortunately ShadowUser and Diskeeper don't love eachother.

One of the recommendations for ShadowUser v2.5 are :
-{ Quote: "
Disable De-fragmentation Programs
We strongly recommend you disable any de-fragmentation programs such as Perfect Disk or Diskeeper while in ShadowMode.
If you run a de-fragmentation program while in ShadowMode, ShadowUser will intercept these commands and disregard all de-fragmentation tasks. Perform de-fragmentation in standard mode.
" }-
So I ditched Diskeeper and that was the worst day in my e-life. :'(

Only Professional Premier has I-FAAST.

Also the Home version does'nt have the ability to alter priorities NOR the optimised large file defragmentation option.

I've just spent all day playing with Professional (the I-FAAST technology does'nt interest me). Im only interested in effective file defragmentation and performance, not any kinda disk placement strategy.

Finally I/O Smart WORKS... infact it makes Diskeeper work far better than anything else in the background I have tried.

The Optimised large file defragmentation option is a real GEM. It smart enough to concentrate on defraging smaller files rather than the huge files where a few fragments will make minimal difference to performace, this has the added benifit of reducing defrag times and also it is a god send for me on my server where there are quite often downloading big files to it.

This has moved Diskeeper back to number one for me, MST Defrag has to step down, as it has issues with background defragging big files (sometimes it wont do them at all and other times it will hang the machine until the file has been processed, it seems to only check disk i/o active before defragging a file not during, like previous versions of diskeeper)).

I will test for stability etc for a few weeks, but on my initial look, it does seem the best for someone who just wants to run it in the background (set it and forget).

Would like to see peoples thoughts on I-FAAST.

But use much more resources than O&O Defrag...

-{ Quote: "Only Professional Premier has I-FAAST." }-Not according to the 'Feature Comparison Chart' unless somebody at Diskeeper Corporation has mucked that up.

O&O on my machines does use less ram, for the service and the application, but when defragging in the background (as opposed to using the app) uses more cpu and causes noticable system slowdown.

Yes their website is incorrect.

"I-FAAST
Note: This feature is only available with Diskeeper Server Enterprise, Diskeeper Server Standard and Diskeeper Professional Premier Editions, on Windows 2000 and higher systems. "

From the documentation that comes with Diskeeper Professional (and also its not there).

Also http://www.diskeeper.com/diskeeper/dk10comparison.asp seems correct.
