I tried the ArcaVir online scanner for the first time today.

It says that it does not scan archives and compressed executable files.
I couldn't care less, since there are so many other good, free online malware scanners around, but I would strongly advice ArcaOnline to at least scan compressed executables, as most malware these days are compressed.
Maybe this would convince new customers to buy their products?

Could there be a reason as to why ArcaOnline online scanner is never recommended in any security forums? :-X :-\

I think that it is because that you have to register to be able to scan...

There is many other places where you can start scanning right away.

Yeah, Arcavir, McAfee & Symantec can't be trusted.
I suggest you use something else.

McAfee isn't that bad. Althought it won't clean the mess, just report it.

Read McAfee's Tos for their online scanner, and tell me that's it not that bad again ;)

I really don't care what information they use from me.
I have no intention to give away my real info to some company from other continent (i try to avoid doing that even for companies in my country).
So as long as they don't spam my inbox i don't really care (email is the only real thing you have to provide). And if you use MSN Messenger you can login via .NET Passport anyway. Big deal. Aside from this minor things, McAfee is just fine online AV scanner.

Btw, Brian, don't you think you're a bit over paranoid? I mean collecting IPs (see the thread you provided). IP is a basic communications thing. You leave it everywhere when you browse, when you download, when you upload or whatever regarding internet communications. Without IP you can't do any of that. So i really don't care much where my IP is logged. Dynamic IP is also another reason why i care even less.

I really don't care either, but they do state that they will collect personal information.. Makes you wonder.

Am I stating that I'm being paranoid about collecting ip addresses? No
I'm just telling the guy, asking the question, about what's being recorded.

Peter from Ewido is in denial about them collecting anything, even though they are. Ip address collecting is meaningless unless you are trying to track down a spammer/crawler/etc. I think we all know what to use them for.
