View Full Version : HD1 and HD2 Reversed

I've just had the motherboard replaced because of a chipset fan failure.

I have 2 hards drives. In "My Computer" they show as HD1 partioned as C, D and E with C being the boot partion.

The other drive is HD2 partitioned F, G, H and I.

This is the way Acronis TI 8 saw them before the motherboard change.

Now TI 8 sees them with reversed HD numbers.

Like this: Disk 1, F, G, H and I.
Disk 2, C, D and E. C is still the boot partition.

Will this be a problem when making a new image?

Thanks
Langdon

When you check "My Computer" now do they show up correctly as they did before the new motherboard?

Yes they do.

That being the case I doubt it's a problem with cables being reversed or your drive jumpers getting switched. You might want to double check that anyway to make sure you didn't reverse the drives as far as Primary/Secondary and Master/Slave. The only other thing I can think of is a complete uninstall/reinstall of TrueImage to see if that sorts them out. Good Luck.

Sorry I didn't mention that they are SATA drives so I guess that master/slave relationship is not relevant.

Probably just the cables reversed as you suggest. I was hoping that someone from Acronis Support would confirm that it is OK to change them around.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think it much matters to TrueImage which drive is which but it could become confusing for you. I know when I'm doing a disk clone I have to stop for a minute to make sure I have my source and destination set correctly or I might accidentally clone the wrong drive over the other. I believe the progam defaults to copying the primary to the secondary so if the drives are reversed and you don't chnge them around in the software you could have a disaster.
Hope you figure it out.

One thing you must watch out for is that when you boot off the Acronis boot cd the disks will NOT usually look the way they did in windows if you have more than one hd. This is not an acronis problem it is the way that drives are mapped at that level. Without going into how that is I'll give you an example of how that can play out based on my own setup.
I have 1 disk partitioned as disk1 C: and disk 1 D:
I have a second hd partitioned as E:
When I boot off the acronis cd
Disk 1 C: is C:
Disk 2 E: is D:
Disk 1 D: is E:

What I recommed is you label your disks accordingly so you know which is which.
I name mine Disk1DriveC Disk1DriveD Disk2DriveE then I know which disk
I'm REALLY looking at when booted off the acronis recovery cd.

Thank you for your replies.

I found the answer to the problem. Like most problems it was trivial in the end.

The guy that changed the motherboard said that windows wouldn't boot up at first. I guess he changed the SATA connectors around and got it to go that way.

The drives were in reverse order in the BIOS so after putting that right and plugging the HD cables into the proper sockets everything is working normally.

Acronis is also back to normal and the drives are displayed in the proper order.

Thanks again

And, hopefully, the guy who changed your motherboard is suitably red faced!!! :)
